legion
American Military bragging about it's underwater capabilities a couple of months ago: BALTOPS 22: A Perfect Opportunity for Research and Resting New Technology Posted on June 14, 2022 by Seapower Staff Lt. j.g. Chris Bianchi, assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 8, prepares mock explosives for a pierside training event during exercise BALTOPS 22, June 10. U.S. NAVY / Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Daniel James Lanari BALTIC SEA — A significant focus of BALTOPS every year is the demonstration of NATO mine hunting capabilities, and this year the U.S. Navy continues to use the exercise as an opportunity to test emerging technology, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa Public Affairs said June 14. In support of BALTOPS, U.S. Navy 6th Fleet partnered with U.S. Navy research and warfare centers to bring the latest advancements in unmanned underwater vehicle mine hunting technology to the Baltic Sea to demonstrate the vehicle’s effectiveness in operational scenarios. Experimentation was conducted off the coast of Bornholm, Denmark, with participants from Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport, and Mine Warfare Readiness and Effectiveness Measuring all under the direction of U.S. 6th Fleet Task Force 68. BALTOPS is an ideal location for conducting mine hunting experimentation due to the region’s unique environmental conductions such as low salinity and varying bottom types. It is also critical to evaluate emerging mine hunting UUV technology in the Baltic due to its applicability with allied and partner nations. This year experimentation was focused on UUV navigation, teaming operations, and improvements in acoustic communications all while collecting critical environmental data sets to advance the automatic target recognition algorithms for mine detection. “In prior BALTOPS we demonstrated advanced capabilities to detect, reacquire and collect images of mine contacts, and transfer those images in near real-time to operators through the use of a specialized Office of Naval Research UUV,” said Anthony Constable, Office of Naval Research science advisor to U.S. 6th Fleet. “This year, through the work of NIWC Pacific and NUWC Newport, we are showing that this capability can be integrated into programs of record by executing complex multi-vehicle UUV missions with modified U.S. Navy fleet assets.” An additional critical objective was to continue to increase the communication range and data transfer capability to give the operators more flexibility in mine hunting operations. Advancements in communication technology, demonstrated this year, have shown a significant improvement in operating ranges over currently used systems. This provides additional standoff flexibility to the U.S. Navy in conducting safe mine hunting operations. BALTOPS also provides a unique opportunity for the U.S. research, development and acquisition communities to exercise the current and emerging UUV technology in real-world operational environments. This year featured the current and future programs of record for mine hunting UUVs in the Mk18 and Lionfish systems. Both systems were put through the paces over 10 days of mine-hunting operations, collecting over 200 hours of undersea data. “The major benefit of the BALTOPS experimentation is to provide advanced mine hunting capabilities to the operator in the field. By exercising the future capabilities, U.S. 6th Fleet can provide valuable feedback to help guide the Navy acquisition community responsible for mine hunting UUV development and procurement,” said Lt. Joshua Lynn, U.S. 6th Fleet experimental lead for BALTOPS. “This year we have seen the near- and long-term future in mine hunting UUV technology and we are excited to see how quickly the technology and capabilities are improving.” https://seapowermagazine.org/baltops-22-a-perfect-opportunity-for-research-and-resting-new-technology/

lake
I believe that this article was published on the day of the explosions but before it happened and references articles back to March. ~~~~ ANALYSIS: Europe to become “ECONOMIC WASTELAND” as industry dies, banks fail and food production plunges Monday, September 26, 2022 by: Mike Adams Europe’s economy, currencies and industries are in free fall, plunging toward “economic wasteland” status that’s less than a year away if natural gas supplies from Russia aren’t quickly restored. That’s the conclusion of numerous experts who have spoken to Natural News over the last two weeks, including war correspondent Michael Yon, Finnish economist Tuomas Malinen, global agricultural trends researcher David Dubyne, and Italian-American author Leo Zagami. The situation is so dire that Germany chemical giant BASF — formerly part of the Nazi-run IG Farben chemical conglomerate that carried out war crimes against humanity — is now threatening to shut down operations for industrial plants that have run continuously since the 1960s. As explained by author Philip Oltermann in a UK Guardian article entitled, “How gas rationing at Germany’s BASF plant could plunge Europe into crisis,” BASF is close to shutting down its massive chemical facilities in Germany due to a lack of natural gas. But shutting down production might be permanent, since no one knows if the plants can ever resume operations after a shutdown, since the very act of shutting the system down may break it. BASF is critical to the world’s supply chain for fertilizer, petroleum refining, medicines, plastics, consumer products, industrial materials and more. If BASF were to go down, Western Europe’s industrial economy would rapidly collapse into ruin, and the global supply chain crisis would dramatically worsen far beyond anything we saw due to covid lockdowns. To understand all this, first consider this March, 2022 Reuters article, “BASF says it would stop output if gas supplies fell to half its needs.” That article explains: Germany’s BASF (BASFn.DE) said on Wednesday it would have to stop production if natural gas supplies fell to less than half its needs, as the world’s largest chemicals group warned of the damage to its operations from Europe’s power crunch. The article reveals that BASF not only uses natural gas as its energy source for chemical manufacturing, but that the hydrocarbons in natural gas are the feed stock for critical chemical production such as ammonia (NH3) which must have hydrogen (H) from hydrocarbon molecules. You can’t simply replace natural gas with electricity, since electricity contains no hydrogen. Thus, wind and solar power can never replace natural gas in industry and manufacturing, including for fertilizer production, plastics and more. As Reuters explains: In Europe, BASF uses around 60% of the gas it buys to generate energy needed in production and the remaining 40% as a raw material to produce important basic chemicals… Note that the above Reuters article was published well before Gazprom ceased gas flows in Nord Stream 1. Current flow is at zero, and Russia has no compelling reason to restore flows anytime soon. This means Germany is running on stored natural gas even as winter approaches. Those gas stores will not last even through the end of this year, by the way, and the really cold weather hits in 2023. BASF warns of an imminent shutdown due to lack of natural gas If natural gas supplies fall to 50% of BASF’s full demand, the company will have to shut down operations. Via The Guardian: “Once we can receive significantly and permanently less than 50% of our maximum requirements, we would need to wind down the entire site,” says Daniela Rechenberger, a company spokesperson. “That is something that has never happened in BASF’s history, and something no one here would want to see happening. But we would have little choice.” Astonishingly, BASF warns that if it were to shutter operations, no one knows whether it could be restarted: With large parts of the verbund site having run around the clock since the 1960s, BASF says it is unclear if production could simply be restarted afterwards or if the drop of pressure would cause some machinery to break. In other words, you can’t simply flip a switch and turn the plant off, then expect to flip the switch the other way and turn it all back on again. These systems are incredibly complex — ammonia production all by itself requires a network of 1,771 miles of pipeline at just one BASF facility (Ludwigshafen), merely to process and distribute ammonia across the 10 sq km campus. That ammonia is then used to create fertilizers, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and many other industrial chemicals, including engine oil additives. “The consequences of a shutdown at Ludwigshafen would be far-reaching, not just in Europe’s largest economy but the entire continent,” writes The Guardian. A shutdown of BASF would mean the closing down of automobile manufacturing, consumer products, agricultural chemicals, sterilization chemicals for hospitals and much more. Across Western Europe, ammonia production is already down by 70%, which will have devastating repercussions on spring planting in 2023 (expect mass famine across Europe throughout 2023 – 2024). Metals smelting operations are more than 50% shut down, and an industry group called Eurometaux has warned that without immediate government intervention (i.e. bailout money), Europe faces “permanent deindustrialization,” meaning it becomes an economic wasteland. <more at link> https://citizens.news/660348.html ~~~~ And it is interesting that the new Norway to Poland pipeline opened the day after the Nord Streams were damaged .... ~~~~ Baltic Pipe: Norway-Poland gas pipeline opens in key move to cut dependency on Russia By Alasdair Sandford with Reuters • Updated: 27/09/2022 - 17:54 Leaders from Poland, Norway and Denmark have attended a ceremony to mark the opening of the new Baltic Pipe, a key stage in the drive to wean Poland and Europe off Russian gas. The pipeline will transport natural gas from the Norwegian shelf via Denmark and through the Baltic Sea to Poland. It is the centrepiece of a Polish strategy to diversify away from Russia that began years before Moscow’s February invasion of Ukraine triggered a global energy crisis. The flows from Norway along with supplies via liquefied gas terminals are central to Poland's plan. The country was cut off from Russian gas supplies in April, allegedly for refusing to pay in roubles. "The era of Russian domination in the field of gas is coming to an end, the era that was marked by blackmail, threats and extortion," Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at the inauguration at Budno in western Poland. Norwegian Energy Minister Terje Aasland said it was "an important step on the important road to Europe's independence from Russian energy". "We must do everything we can to eliminate energy as an instrument of Russian power," added Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. "Together we will defeat Putin." The inauguration came after Danish and Swedish authorities identified several gas leaks on the Russian-operated Nord Stream pipelines, prompting fears of sabotage. The Danish system operator Energinet said at the weekend that the Baltic Pipe link could be commissioned at full capacity a month early thanks to good progress on work in Denmark. It brings the planned date forward to the end of November instead of 1 January. Construction in Denmark had been suspended for nine months for environmental reasons but resumed last March. "Due to an extraordinary effort on the part of everyone involved, we were able to lay the remaining pipelines faster than expected. Full commissioning can therefore take place ahead of time," said Torben Brabo, Energinet’s Director of International Relations. Credit: Baltic Pipe Project The pipeline's routeCredit: Baltic Pipe Project "Baltic Pipe is part of a larger Polish strategy to end dependency on Russian gas flowing through the Yamal pipeline. It was a cornerstone of the plan. The fact that it is being finalised earlier than expected of course comes at a good time, since Poland no longer receives the gas it used to," Trine Villumsen Berling, senior researcher in global security at the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS), told Euronews. "It was, however, always the Polish plan to stop using Russian gas when the contract with Gazprom ran out by the end of 2022," she added. The Polish energy infrastructure minister Mateusz Berger said on Saturday that the completion meant Poland should get double the amount of gas originally expected in the last quarter of the year. Norway’s Equinor said on Friday it had entered into a 10-year agreement to sell natural gas to Poland’s PGNiG in a deal covering a volume of 2.4 billion cubic metres (bcm) per year, or around 15% of Polish annual consumption. The Baltic Pipe has an annual capacity of 10 bcm. The contract with Equinor supplements Poland’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply, domestic output and potential imports via interconnectors with its neighbours ahead of the coming winter. PGNiG said in a statement last week that it had secured its gas supply for the winter heating season. https://www.euronews.com/2022/09/27/baltic-pipe-norway-poland-gas-pipeline-opens-in-key-move-to-cut-dependency-on-russia 1

Kit Knightly Last night it was reported that “blasts” had damaged both Nordstream pipelines that carry gas exported from Russia to Germany and other nations across northern Europe. As a result, large amounts of natural gas were leaking into the Baltic sea, and supplies through the pipeline were completely shut off. The alleged incident has caused a furious round of blame tennis, with accusations flying back and forth across what – for the sake of simplicity – we’ll call Iron Curtain 2.0. The European Union has claimed the pipes were “sabotaged”, but doesn’t directly blame anyone in their statement. The Telegraph is already blaming actively the Russians, specifically Western Bogeyman President Vladimir Putin. Headlining “Why Putin would want to blow up Nord Stream 2, and the advantages it gives him” On the flip side, the Russians have said the idea they would sabotage their own pipeline is “stupid” Some Western alternate media have pointed to Joe Biden’s vow to totally shut down Nordstream 2 back in February as a sign the US was behind the alleged attack. The former Polish defence minister has come right out and said that NATO forces blew up the pipeline, according to Forbes. The question – one it seems I keep asking the last two years – is “does it really matter?” Maybe the Americans blew it up. Maybe the Russians blew it up. Maybe someone else blew it up. Or maybe nobody blew it up, and the entire story is a fabrication. Whatever the truth may be, the end result remains the same. Gas and electricity will be more expensive. There will be a huge push to turn to “renewables”, talk about “climate catastrophe”, and maybe even be energy rationing and/or blackouts. People will freeze, starve and probably die this winter. That has always been part of the plan, what reason is there to think this “attack” is anything but more of the same? Everyone is abuzz with talk of who did what, and asking “Was it sabotage?” But the simple answer to that is “yes, of course it was.” No matter the exact specific details of the situation, the Nordstream explosion was definitely an act of sabotage. The same sabotage we’ve been seeing for two years. The sabotage of our entire way of life, by people who would profit both monetarily and politically from a sea-change in the way our society is structured. HAARPING_On
Interesting take on this whole scenario from Kyle Young at The Secular Heretic.... A bit of a long read but some facts, theories and opinions thgat are worth considering.... https://secularheretic.substack.com/p/the-big-whodunnit-part-1 The Big Whodunnit - part 1 national or corporate piracy under the high seas? both? Kyle Young Oct 2 ▷ Listen SAVE Hey there you diligent band of freedom loving heretics! Welcome back! Things have taken an interesting turn in the past week. Although my dad was a minor manager in the bottom hole segment of the oil energy sector, he was an keen observer of machinations on the greater energy playing field. Hence, I come at this from a slightly different perspective than what is being touted from many other sources. Over the last 50 years we’ve witnessed how alliances between the government, the military industrial complex, big tech, big pharma and the media have coalesced into a socialized, fascist state to inject billions into a tightly controlled, tyrannical propaganda campaign to scare the masses into lining up for highly profitable, but deadly and dangerously transhumanist jabs. From their view, it may seem that their latest version of this campaign, what I call covidcon, has worked marvelously. Millions of well programed… I mean, well educated people have been completely duped and duly jabbed. As expected, the big payday has come. Trump and Biden have authorized that hundreds of billions of our taxpayer dollars be given to the instigators of covidcon to pay for all aspects of the jabs: development, testing, promotion, purchase, distribution and delivery. Those who are injured or who lost loved ones due to the jabs are considered by the winners to be the losers, are left to fend for themselves. The ravages of spiritual warfare. Media is no longer a centralized, easily controlled medium. Truth is now leaking out everywhere online - which is why yours truly and so many others have been censored by those big tech entities linked tightly to the deep state. But our diligence is reaching ever more people. As word gets out and the vast number of injuries and deaths from the jabs becomes ever harder to hide, the number of people taking boosters are dropping precipitously everywhere. In line with this, big pharma profits are also dropping precipitously. The result? The Black Rocks, Vanguards, NGO’s and deep state managers of the world are now shifting their focus to rigging another aspect of the centralized, global game board they created to control every aspect of our lives - energy. Consequently, the energy game plan has that same odiferous fascist aura surrounding it. Like covidcon, the internet is once again throwing a wild card onto the elitists dark game board. This is my first play. If you thought the big tech/big pharma game board was messy, wait until you read about the complexity involved in this energy game board. centralization = bad… decentralizaton = good In part 2 we’ll consider ways to decentralize energy. In this piece were going to look at why centralized energy sources are such a bad idea. Massive, centralized, energy sources like Nord Stream, and its sabotage, highlight just how vulnerable the ‘centralization’ of anything is, be it the pharmaceutical industry or energy resources, and illustrates very nicely why centralizing anything is such a bad idea. And yet, world authorities like the WHO, the WEF, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and numerous governments continue to push for globalist scenarios. Why? Two reasons. They offer the best solutions for controlling the masses and more importantly, they offer great way to force everyone into a payment system that enriches the elite while enslaving everyone else to those systems. Although most of the current game board physically lies in Europe and Western Russia, as is usually the case when it comes to big energy, one of the primary players is the US. Let’s have look at the major players, known and unknown. Nord Stream By now most of you know about the apparent sabotage of both the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines which supply gas from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea. Actually #2 was ready to open, but for reasons we’ll get into, it never was. And it does seem to be sabotage. Swedish seismologists recorded underwater explosions along the route of the pipe lines during the time period when the lines were thought to have been hit. Dmitry Peskov, Putins spokesperson, has said they think it’s a terrorist attack. An official statement from the Kremlin says “… it seems that this is some kind of terrorist attack”. Even before the sabotage on the Nord Stream pipelines, machinations between Russia, the US and the Ukraine over natural gas that moves from Russia through Ukraine and the Baltic Sea to supply Europe were already having a profound effect on this winters energy supply outlook in Europe. This has to do with the fact that in retaliation for Russias invasion, Ukraine restricted oil and gas that flows through its pipelines from Russia to Europe. Why has it not shut them down completely? Because it’s still receiving payments from Russia for letting the flow continue. Yes, it does seem like some sort of gentlemen's war game with an unannounced agenda. Ahh, but there is an agenda and we’ll get into it as we go along. Because energy availability in Europe is expected to be so very limited this winter, some European countries are already talking about imposing prison sentences on people who let their homes get above 78 degrees. How will they know? Digital electric meters and digital thermostats with wifi capabilities. If you have one, ask for it to be replaced with the old style analogue meter or thermostat. Prior to he pipeline attacks, adding to European energy woes was Russia’s decision to reduce gas flow through Nord Stream 1, which, until the recent sabotage, was its largest pipeline in use. At that time Russia was blaming the slowdown on repairs, saying those repairs may last through the winter. The EU and the US are saying Russia’s flow reduction is retaliation for sanctions against Russia for invading Ukraine. The newer Nord Stream 2 was completed in September of 2021 but due to a number of bureaucratic delays, as well as the questionable refusal by Germany to certify the new pipeline, although the line had been charged, gas had not yet begun to flow into Germany (more on this coming up). According to the previous link, NS2 had been put on hold just days before Putins invasion of Ukraine. However, in the more recent weeks prior to the pipeline attack, Putin had told the EU that all they had to do was “push the button” (give the green light) and the flow would begin. Not now. As of Thursday September 29, there were a total of four known breaks in Nord Stream 1 and 2. Contrary to popular belief, Nord Stream is not a fully Russian owned company. Wikipedia explains the ownership breakdown. Nord Stream 1 is operated by the special-purpose company Nord Stream AG, incorporated in Zug, Switzerland on 30 November 2005. Shareholders of the company are the Russian gas company Gazprom (51% of shares), the German companies Wintershall Dea and PEG Infrastruktur AG (E.ON) (both 15.5%), the Dutch gas company Gasunie (9%), and the French gas company Engie (9%).[16][28] The chairman of the shareholders' committee is German ex-chancellor Gerhard Schröder. Upgrade to paid Whodunnit When an event like this happens, one of the best ways to look for responsible parties is to determine who benefits and who loses. In this case, because the technology to blow up a gas line of this size 70 meters under salt water is so complex, we also have to determine who would have the technical capacity to do something like this. Some of the people that have been looking into this have taken the position that this had to be done with a military submarine. While that’s a possibility, I think there are much more subtle options. But, let’s briefly consider it. There are only a few countries in the world with subs capable of this type of attack; Russia, China, the UK, US and Germany. From a practical point of view it seems that Russia would not want to cut off one of its primary sources of income by destroying its own pipelines. Not to mention the massive cost of repairing pipelines that are also now likely filled with seawater. It also seems Germany wouldn’t want to cut off it primary source of energy. Or would it? More on this coming up. The UK got a small percentage of its gas from Nord Stream 1, but that loss of that can be made up from the Langeled pipeline that goes from the North Sea (Norway) to the East coast of England, as well as from shipping sources. As will be pointed out, numerous influential London based corporations have massive investments in the energy sector, which casts a shadow over the UK. The US would seem to have no skin in this game, except that with Germany now cut off from much of its Russian gas, the US can now offer LNG to it via ships. Opps. That makes the US look like it stands to benefit from the sabotage of Nord Stream 1 and 2. But there’s more parties involved. Another possible means of attack is the use of timed depth charges. Any passing ship could have dropped depth charges with timers set to not go off until well after the ship had cleared the area. This seems unlikely. The chances of depth charges being dropped to that depth and making a direct hit on the target pipeline are slim, at best. Because the number of leaks corresponds to the number of seismic explosions detected by Swiss seismologists, that means each depth charge would have made a direct hit. Not likely. Another scenario is that underwater drones were used to launch torpedos. But again, that limits the possibilities to a very few parties who might have the technological capability of making and remotely operating underwater drones and their torpedos. This one seems legit, but I have to wonder about the capacity of a small torpedo fired from a small drone. Those pipelines are 48” (OD) in diameter and are nearly 2" thick metal wrapped in concrete casing. Some experts are now claiming that the amount of explosives used on each location was equal to 200 to 250 pounds of TNT. Another scenario is the use of specialized underwater teams to set timed explosives. In other words, a team could have been in the area months ago and set the charges to go off when they did. I’m leaning towards this scenario because it’s the most subtle and the potential number of candidates is huge. And here we have consider non-state players. Corporate Options One of the mistakes being made by those who have been writing about what countries might be responsible for these explosion is just that - assuming that a nation-state is responsible. When we consider how massive energy corporations operate with impunity around the world, as if national laws don’t pertain to them, we have to give the technical and financial capabilities of these behemoths some consideration. Although these companies may be based in a particular country, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re loyal to that country. Here are the top ten largest offshore drilling companies in the world (there are many more), any on of which would have the technical ability to set timed charges on the NS pipelines. This is not a complete list, there’s Italian Saipem, Danish Maersk and so on. Shlumberger founded by two Frenchmen, the notorious US based Haliburton, Texas based Fluor Corporation, Houston based Baker Houghes, London based Ensco Pic, Texas based Diamond Offshore Drilling, London based Rowan Companies (part of Ensco Rowan Pic), London based Noble Corporation, and Seadrill, founded by a Norwegian, but now based in Bermuda. Russia and the US. Not only do all of those countries have skin in the game they also all have teams that could be hired out by other countries to do the work. Then there are the companies that specialize in undersea pipelines. One of the biggest is Cecon Cecon, out of Norway. As you will come to understand, this country and this company may stand to benefit the most from the destruction of NS 1 and 2. Then we have Saudi Aramco, Russia’s Gazprom, Canadas TC Energy Corporation, Williams Companies (US) and the French company Bollore, to name a few of the bigger ones. Any of these companies (or their highly trained employees?) might be available for hire as a private contractor to set charges on the NS pipelines… for the right price. Upgrade to paid The USA Prior to the Nord Stream attacks, in a supposed move to “secure natural gas supplies for the US”, Biden told US energy titans to curtail exports of oil and gas. Weeks ago, when Biden said that, I thought - big mistake, that will drive up energy prices worldwide and fuel inflation. Biden’s move will also tighten the stranglehold on energy sources for the EU. However, given the recent pipeline attacks, it’s clear that taking those pipelines out of the picture will do more to drive up worldwide energy prices than Biden’s lame request. Tearing page from the covidcon playbook - to create the dangerous appearance of something that in reality, doesn’t exist - it now seems apparent that the ultimate game plan has been to create a false impression that there is now an energy shortage and to use that as a reason to increase energy prices world wide. We can be sure that the US energy companies will ignore Biden’s toothless request and will move to fill the gas void created by the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines, and profit greatly in the process. The EU The EU is an economic and military powerhouse. This is largely because of the 400 year long history of its largest member states having colonized much of the new world and Africa. Because of that history, it’s also home to many of the institutions that have long controlled many aspects of ‘modern’ African, South and North American societies. Here I’m talking about the idea of stock markets, banking systems, educational systems, Bilderberg, WEF, Masons, Knights Templar, the Vatican and The Black Nobility, (to name a few) all of which have their origins in Europe. Which brings me to consider what some have speculated - that the EU is being squeezed from the East and the West. While I’m not going to rule that possibility out, the next section explains why I’m a bit dubious about this. Keep in mind that both the US and Russia have the ability to repair the pipelines in a timely manner. Germany Another little known twist in this story is that Germany has been considering appropriating a section of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, where it comes onshore and goes to the German terminal, and using it to move LNG brought in by ship to a new loading terminal that would be constructed at the point of severance with the NS2 pipeline from Russia. Apparently, Germany has ownership of that section of the pipe, so it can do this. Russia has said that would be matter for lawyers to decide. Germany has actually been preparing for this for some time. In March of this year Germany chartered 4 FSRU’s - specialized ships that can regassify LNG. LNG tanker ships would bring in the gas from other sources to the yet-to-be-constructed Nord Stream 2 terminal. Apparently, Germany can glean more gas this way than it can by having it come from Russia. Here’s a simplified schematic of how it would work (courtesy MarineLink). Does this mean Germany hoodwinked Russia into building NS2 so they could get a significant portion of that infrastructure built for free? Whatever the case, it certainly makes Germany look like another winner from the upstream sabotage of NS2. Keep in mind that the sea water that’s likely still filling both NS pipes through the gaping holes created by the explosions will be kept from rising to the higher level of this terminal point by a large gas bubble pocket at the sealed onshore metering station. Upgrade to paid Poland In one of the more interesting twists to this story, Radek Sikorski, Poland’s ex-Foreign Minister, and Chair of the Delegation for relations with the US, and the husband of US journalist Anne Applebaum, tweeted his thanks to the US for the explosions. Right. Does he have some sort of inside information that the US is responsible? RT had this to say about Sikorski’s tweet. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova had suggested that Sikorsky’s tweet amounted to an “official statement that this was a terrorist attack,” while Moscow’s deputy ambassador to the UN, Dmitry Polyanskiy, thanked Sikorski for “making it crystal clear who stands behind this terrorist-style targeting of civilian infrastructure!” Sikorski has since deleted that tweet. Why was he so immediately and thoughtlessly thankful? Poland doesn’t have any skin in this game. Wait… what’s that? Oops, turns out, they do. Sikorski later added that this (the sabotage) will force Russia to negotiate with Poland and Ukraine to export more gas to Europe through pipelines the cross those countries. But that’s only a minor part of the Polish connection. Sikorski failed to mention that on September 27, 2022 Poland and Norway opened a brand new pipeline that runs through Denmark to supply Poland with gas from gas rich Norway. And yes, ceremonial opening of the pipeline occurred within hours of the leaks being discovered! This is not a direct line from Norway to Poland. It’s actually a tie-in to an existing pipeline called Europipe II that goes from Norway to Germany under the North Sea and now accounts for a large percentage of Germany’s natural gas. It’s been in use since 1999. Here we have two more little known winners on the big boys energy game board of NS destruction, Norway and to a lesser extent, Denmark. Even Sweden gets some of this gas. Norway On Monday, the day before the leaks were noticed, Norways Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) told oil companies to be vigilant about unidentified drones seen flying near Norwegian offshore oil and gas platforms, warning of possible attacks. Drones have been flying around the world for the past twenty years. Why would Norway's PSA choose to issue a specific warning within hours of the NS attacks? As we have seen, Norway may benefit the most from the shut down of NS 1 and 2. Even if, in the not too distant future, we see retaliatory attacks on Norway oil and gas platforms, because some of the other major players also stand to benefit (like the US), can we assume that Norway, or at least some faction of it’s corporate oil and gas sector, was responsible for the NS attacks? Always remember, when it comes to big oil and gas, nothing is ever as it seems. Summary It’s apparent that this is a very complicated story with a lot of big-time players, any number of whom could be guilty parties. Like covidcon, sorting all of this out will likely take years and we may never know all of the details. Beware of those who say they know whodunnit.
