'In political and sociological theory, the elite (French: élite, from Latin: eligere, to select or to sort out) are a small group of powerful people who hold a disproportionate amount of wealth, privilege, political power, or skill in a group.' Hmm ... I think it's deeper than that though. Of particular note (to me, anyway) is the 'El-' part. El-ites. Is it just coincidence that El was worshipped in ancient times, as was Ra and Isis, hence the word IS-RA-EL? To me, these bastards will always be elites with a small 'e.' The gap between these big social engineers and the average person gets bigger with each passing day.
