Things have felt off kilter for some time, but as you say, the surrealness keeps escalating. Included in the oddness is the fact that so many people appear to not be noticing it at all or reacting in a way that seems suitable. I know, and those who did, just gave a brief, cursory glance and carried on walking. It's completely unfathomable. If I witnessed anything like that, the maternal instinct would go into overdrive - I'd be chasing, attacking, screaming, kicking, trying to make a citizen's arrest, shaming the surrounding people into assisting, calling the police, photographing the kidnapper - with every fibre of my being, and he wouldn't get away. I would believe that if there turned out to be some innocent explanation, it would still have been the right reaction. BUT - I would automatically expect that to be the natural instinct of any witness. This would absolutely would be my reaction also. I also agree it unfathomable that they carried on walking. However, devils advocate here, were all those people unsuspecting public or actors? They could have framed that video to make people look like cunts. Just driven by egotistical desires for more materialism and a never ending supply of emptiness. They're dead inside. That said, I wouldn't rule it out as being real. Other factors to consider regarding the video: The kids never really screamed and kicked and put up a fight. From the visual perspective of those on the street, it could look just like a parent picking up a kid. I would have kicked and screamed and put up a fight as a kid. I would assume most would have, as well. The camera and crew could have been more visible than our perspective would allow. Meaning, it may have looked like a staged event to the passersby? You'd have struggled with screaming as the pretend kidnapper stuffed a rag over his mouth and nose as he was picking him up. I trained my kids on that when they were small - if anyone approaches you in any way you run, kick, scream blue murder, bite and make as much noise as you can. But being hoisted in the air and whisked away like that lad was (albeit role playing) I don't think he had much chance of doing that. Can't comment on the visibilty of the filming crew - they could have been filming out of a transit van? If it was noticeable you'd expect nosey parkers to be looking at the cameras, as they do generally. I'm not trying to be argumentative, and I would like to think the lack of reaction did have some logical explanation. But I'm not really convinced. Big city, rural town - if I'd have seen it, I'd have been on that bloke's throat in an instant, and apologising profusely when it came to light that it was staged.
