zArk
for the petition it requires a mindset change for enough politicians but first you gotta find one who is widely knowledgeable and recognises that face masks have no substantial, randomised samples, isolated tests done to prove any effect upon transmission then the politician could go to others to try and change the SAGE decision based upon the DELVE information upstream is a shit swim, downstream is fast and flowing i know people who dont wear the mask and /or do wear it but dont want to and think its stupid but they struggle to accept the lack of transmission evidence transmission is for them common sense and fits with government guidelines this is a problem rooted in society
Mr H
Has anyone had the pleasure of public transport in london recently and can report what the mask status is? Are more people now conforming? Has anyone been back to the offices? What is the status like there?
Grumpy Owl
Had the following email this morning: The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Repeal the decision to implement compulsory face coverings in English shops.”. Government responded: People must play their part to reduce the spread of the virus. Wearing a face covering helps this, giving people the confidence to return to shops safely, and better protects those who work in retail. The government is telling the public to play their part and wear face coverings in order to help fight the spread of the virus, enabling further easing of national restrictions. Coronavirus (COVID-19) usually spreads by droplets from coughs, sneezes and speaking. These droplets can also be picked up from surfaces, if you touch a surface and then your face without washing your hands first. This is why social distancing, regular hand hygiene, and covering coughs and sneezes is so important in controlling the spread of the virus. There is evidence to suggest that, when used correctly, face coverings may reduce the likelihood of someone with the infection passing it on to others, particularly if they are asymptomatic. Because face coverings are mainly intended to protect others, not the wearer, from coronavirus (COVID-19) they are not a replacement for social distancing and regular hand washing. Since 11 May, the Government has been advising people to wear face coverings in enclosed indoor spaces, where they cannot easily social distance, and where they come into contact with people they do not normally meet. The wearing of face coverings has been required on public transport since 15 June. In recent weeks, some lockdown restrictions have been eased and the retail sector has reopened. As footfall increases, we want to give people more confidence to shop safely, and enhance protections for those who work in shops. The British Retail Consortium has said that together with other social distancing measures, face coverings can make shoppers feel even more confident about returning to the high street. The Government has published guidance online which sets out when the public need to wear one and how they can make their own. There are exemptions for those who are unable to wear a face covering due to age, health, disability, and other reasons. There has been an ongoing assessment as to the impacts of the Government’s policy, including on groups with protected characteristics, that has informed decision making. The Government is running a proactive communications campaign on face coverings to alert the public where they are now required to wear a face covering, who is exempt from wearing one, and how to wear one correctly. We are actively engaging with stakeholders including disability charities to communicate new guidance to their members as well as highlighting this message to the general public on social media and via broadcasting opportunities. On 31 July the Prime Minister announced that the face covering regulations will be extended to cover further indoor settings such as places of worship from 8 August. We will keep advice on the use of face coverings under review, in line with the latest scientific evidence. Department of Health and Social Care Click this link to view the response online: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/331430?reveal_response=yes The Petitions Committee will take a look at this petition and its response. They can press the government for action and gather evidence. If this petition reaches 100,000 signatures, the Committee will consider it for a debate. The Committee is made up of 11 MPs, from political parties in government and in opposition. It is entirely independent of the Government. I'm not trying to be a wet blanket but petitions really mean very little.Even with 100,000 signatures the "independent commission" will just give it lip service then confine it to the wastepaper basket. Some of them know what's going on and are rolling out their agenda, while the rest are just brainwashed dumb fucks who believe everything they're told and who's only concern is to keep their jobs and not rock the boat. The only way to really change anything is to change public opinion, and seeing as how they control the media the only way to do that is by talking to people. It's depressing.... I'm just back from the supermarket. Everyone bar one old guy and me were wearing masks. A young SJW stacking shelves asks me: "Do you have a mask?" "I'm exempt" "You're exempt?" "Yep, now where do you keep the yeast?" "Uh, I think we're all out, can you come back on Monday?" "No problem, thanks" ....then I continued on my shop, paid and left. Storm in the garden
What they are doing is a complete inversion of the law. The law states "a person is innocent until proven guilty" What they're doing is akin to presuming everyone is capable of a crime, and therefore needs to be locked away until they prove their innocence? We are being presumed guilty of harboring a disease, and should be quarantined and isolated until such time as we prove otherwise. I saw a video somewhere on here of a lawyer (I think she was Australian) saying this and when you think about it she's spot on. I think she's bringing a case to trial based on this which could prove very interesting.

So if we're not getting any privileges, does that not negate our responsibility towards complying with what our policy makers believe are our duties and obligations? To be honest, this is the kind of response I was expecting to receive. But I will go back to a point I made earlier in this thread, that the only petitions that amount to anything are those started on the UK Government Petitions site, the Change.org, 38Degrees and SumOfUs et al sites can much easily be dismissed and/or ignored. Grumpy Owl
Had some fun today, while travelling on the bus into Birmingham city centre earlier, we had some inspectors board at their usual haunt on Deritend High Street where they do their ticket (revenue) checks. This was the first time I had encountered any revenue checks since before the lockdown. I was fine, as I have a monthly direct debit pass saved on a Swift smartcard, which the inspectors usually validate by tapping against a smartphone. On this occasion though, I just showed my card to the inspector. It seemed almost an afterthought, when the inspector clearly noticed I was not wearing a face covering (as were most of the other few passengers on the top deck!) and asked me if I had one. I politely replied "no" and before he could say anything else I pointed to the 'exemption' card I had printed off from the Network West Midlands website and put in the other section of my travel pass holder. Aha! A proper 'gotcha' moment! He backed off, gave me a thumbs up, said "oh ok, thanks!" before moving on to the next passenger. To the other passengers not wearing coverings, I could hear similar conversations. "Have you got a face covering? ... Oh OK, please wear one next time, otherwise our staff can refuse you travel". Without the Safer Travel police officers, even the ticket inspectors can't enforce this, let alone the drivers. But if you have one of these cards from your local transport authority, you are practically invincible!

I knew the exemptions under the initial mandate but it's good to have the latest version clearly explained. Had I known when I went shopping yesterday and the shelf stacker asked me "Do you have a mask?" I could have asked him was he the owner, occupier, or person in charge of the store, rather than just telling him "I'm exempt"
