Also there seems to be uncertainty of whether newsagents and 'little' shops will be implementing these rules. owen Posted July 23, 2020 Share Posted July 23, 2020 Here in Ireland it has been mandatory since last monday, though not yet enacted into law. The govt here has also made it mandatory for shop assistants. Usually there are one or two other customers without masks. I havent yet come across any obstructive security guards or been on the wrong end of disapproving comments from anyone. Theres the odd disapproving stare as I walk unmasked pass the sanitizers of course. I suspect just like some places in Scotland they may start asking for a doctors exemption letter after it progresses into law. I will plan a trip to the doc shortly to cover that end. It can be a bit of a lonely furrow at times and its hard to believe its come to this point so quickly. Ive always been a bit of a maverick though and been through some tough scrapes in the past where I had to show strength of character and that stands to me now. The words of a former rugby international whom I knew come to mind , before he took to the pitch he once said "we are in this together lads, but when you go out there youre on your own". Thats the way it can feel every day when you go out there so its great to come on here to recharge the batteries, reading about the struggles of like minded people, watching Davids videos, the two Vernons, the other outspoken medical people etc Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He said "you can put your stuff down if you want" while he was paying with his card. I replied thanks and did so. I then asked the shopkeeper about masks and the young lad said oh is it tomorrow? I'll do my shopping now then. I wished I would have brought the mask in my bag to show him my way of "protesting". If on the rare chance you are reading this please contact me. To be honest as I drove there I still didn't know what I would do when I got there... Option 1. Make a scene, tell them I don't believe in any of this mask bollocks and see what happens. Option 2. Conform. I don't have, or have any intention of getting a mask, but I have one of those snood things I'd gotten for hiking last winter, which was around my neck and could be pulled up over my mouth if required (and I was willing to!). Option 3. About turn, while informing them I'll be taking my custom elsewhere (but where I'm not sure, possibly getting my groceries delivered?) Option 4. Inform them when stopped that I have difficulty breathing when wearing a mask and therefore according to the government website I'm exempt (and also according to the same website I'm not to be judged or criticized for not wearing one). Everybody has difficulty breathing while wearing a mask because it's unnatural, so it's down to the degree of difficulty you are experiencing. The only person who can determine that degree is the mask wearer themselves. Nobody else can say whether on not you are experiencing difficulty or to what degree. I was sort of leaning towards this option 4 but I would prefer to have had a printout of the page as backup (unfortunately my printer's broke) Anyways, I walked into the supermarket. The first thing I noticed was that all the staff were masked up. The second thing I saw was that all the shoppers were masked too. So I braced myself and started shopping. The first thing I encountered was that none of the staff said or did anything, so I continued. I walked by people in the isles, and I paid no attention to the arrows, hand sanitizer, social distancing or anything else as I shopped. Nobody said anything to me. Nobody even looked oddly at me. So I got my groceries, paid at a self-service teller and walked out... It could be completely different next time I venture out to the shops, but this was my shopping experience yesterday. I agree. I think this may belong in its own thread, but my mother was in her twenties when the more lethal Hong Kong Flu passed through the UK in 1968. She doesn't remember it (like most people I presume) because there wasn't 24/7 bombardment/brainwashing by media. As an older person who spends most of her time watching the mainstream nowadays, she thinks this concoction is lethal. I remember my friends mum telling me about this flu, it left her with some asthma so that is what she remembered it by. She's in her 90s now ... The endless propaganda has some of them in a state of fear, and in some cases no relatives or friends to help. Once the weather gets colder, are they going to still enforce the elderly into socially distanced queues outside of shops in the wet?
