( This seems like a good list to print out and give to anyone you can think of who still feels pressured into wearing masks, in the workplace, and in waiting rooms for instance. They may need some back up, support and encouragement. 😊 I've overheard people at the doctors recently who still politely don't want to be rude, or however they would say it ...

My colleague had to attend a short hearing last week. It could have been done over the phone but for some reason it was scheduled as an in-person conference. She went with her client, who suffers from Emphysema, is on oxygen, and can barely walk. When they arrived, the security guard pointed to the mask requirement but took pity and waved them in. The adjudicator however, demanded that masks be worn. My colleague told the adjudicator that her client could not and would not wear a mask. The adjudicator stood up, walked out of the room and is now threatening sanctions. We await the outcome but are prepared to take this as far as we can.

Follow-up to last Thursday's post. I received a phone call from the chief judge this morning. I get on well with her. She said that it is up to each individual adjudicator as to how they deal with mask issues and they have fairly broad latitude. I was told that walking out of a hearing room was unacceptable and she asked me what I would like to do about it (I have taken over the case from my colleague). I asked for a change of adjudicator (granted), and a hearing date in the next two weeks (also granted). The chief herself will hear the case and no masks will be required. She also suggested that I file a written argument that might help her expedite matters.  It boils down the fact that they don't want us to file a discrimination case. As long as my client gets taken care of, then I won't take any further action. It's a small victory in the grand scheme of things but I'll take it.

Went to the surgery today

In one waiting room one out of the three wore a mask, in the other waiting room, one older couple walked in with homemade face masks, no-one else had one on. Both receptionists were behind the awful perspex, without masks.

Went to the hospital afterwards; the majority wore masks, although some staff didn't which was a litle bit encouraging?

I saw too many rainbows; pedestrian crossings labelled 'cross with pride', and a big poster advertising rainbow pin badges, describing how it shows the hospital is inclusive and welcomes everyone. Oh everyone except anti-vax, mask less, smiling homophobes?! 🤪 It is a sickness. A wolf in sheep's clothing. Damn them.

There's a tension on the buses to and from work this last week.

I see lots more masks than I have in an age and see people standing instead of sitting next to somebody. They'll scan the isle, go upstairs, come back down again and not take a seat.

If I was to describe this tension in a single word, it would be paranoia.

The funny thing has always been that while they're afraid to sit next to someone else, they'll happily stand in the narrowest part of the bus where other people have to squeeze past them in order to get on or off! 😁

This little girl died suddenly 12 hours after feeling a tummy ache. On Saturday there will be a clap for her at the football as she was a Man City fan.

There is much to say about this I'm sure, starting with this ridiculous mask picture that was part of the article. The continuous normalisation of the abnormal.
