Boris Johnson to stand down as Prime Minister

Well duh, this whole leadership squabble should have been conducted behind closed doors. Why the hell did they think playing it out in public would serve any useful purpose?

(Other than create the illusion of some kind of process being undertaken, when I'm sure it's a WEF done deal anyway).

It's all theatre. All for show. All for pantomime.

It serves no meaningful purpose.

As I've pointed out already, while the wider Conservative Party members get to vote for who their next leader should be, it is the Conservative MPs who have been voting amongst themselves to whittle down the list of candidates to a choice of two, which the party membership then gets to vote on.

357 Conservative MPs

These 357 people get to decide which of two candidates the rest of the party members get to vote on.

How many Conservative party members are there? No-one seems to know for sure, reports vary between 160,000 and 180,000.

So we have an 'elite' of Tory MPs, deciding who an 'elite' can vote for in a leadership contest, an 'elite' which is a tiny minority of the UK population, but gets to decide who our Prime Minister will be.

I didn't watch any of these televised debates because it was ultimately futile. I'm not a Tory party member so I don't get a say in the matter. It doesn't matter who my preference was.

If we're talking about "tyranny of the majority" then 0.23% of the UK population are going to be able to choose who the next Prime Minister is going to be.

And despite all the pledges, and promises, nothing will actually change.

That's the reason for all the 'theatre', just to give people the perception that 'things will change'.

Two things in the Nooz today...

Covid "inquiry" begins

EU takes legal action against UK over NI Protocol.

Coincidence that these are both starting now Boris gave his parting commons speech?

He wasn't forced out. He went when he was told to go, for the benefit of the narrative.

Pity it wasn't Piers Morgan falling on his tremendously smug face. I will grudgingly admit that Truss did herself a favour there by looking genuinely shocked and concerned (a bit like a human being).

Is it possible to hope that when some see the fruits of their labour with their own eyes, it will make them think twice about their complicity? (That's assuming this belly flop was jab related, but what are the odds!)

Tory leadership: Liz Truss cancels BBC interview with Nick Robinson

Quote

Liz Truss has pulled out of a BBC One interview with Nick Robinson that was due to air on Tuesday evening.

Ms Truss' team said she could no longer spare the time for the one-on-one programme, the BBC said in a statement.

Rishi Sunak, Ms Truss' rival for the Conservative leadership, was interviewed by Robinson on 10 August.

The ballot of Tory party members closes on Friday, with the winner set to be announced next Monday, 5 September.

In its statement, the BBC added: "We regret that it has not been possible to do an in-depth interview with both candidates, despite having reached agreement to do so."

Robinson said on Twitter he was "disappointed and frustrated" that his scheduled interview with Ms Truss - widely considered to be the front-runner to become prime minister - had been cancelled.

Both Ms Truss and Mr Sunak have taken part in a series of hustings across the country, as well as television debates that have included direct questions.

The truth is: NOBODY CARES

What is the point of all this theatre and pantomime?

All these 'interviews' and 'debates' for the masses to watch, yet it is only the members of the Conservative party that get to vote on this.

Sunak and Truss will both make their 'promises' to the public, but it is not the public that they are 'appealing' to for votes.

It is the 160,000+ Conservative party members who will be casting their ballot.

And we all know that it makes no difference whom the Conservative membership votes for, whoever they choose is just the next in line of the puppets, that will just continue to follow the agenda and support the "current thing".

Why this whole process has to have gone on for so long, is just another part of the charade.

When I was a member of UKIP, there was an electronic online polling system which made voting in party elections easy and straightforward, while members who chose to send in postal votes were given a two week window, after all it doesn't take that long to mark a vote on a ballot paper and post it back to party HQ.

Even so, as an 'ordinary party member', how do you know for certain that your vote doesn't count because the election is rigged from the start?

Next month, we get a new Prime Minister. But not one that we the public voted for, and probably neither did the Tory party members.

The agenda continues, and the promises evaporate.

100% agree on all of the post, but especially this.

It's why there is absolutely no point (even if it were remotely bothered) in following the pantomime.
