The pentagram depicted here is broken and it is supposed to allow bad things in, where as a perfectly connected one offers protection, the pentagram is also the symbol which most resembles Man, people that use this symbol for protection are often devil worshipers and the sole purpose is to confuse it with the evil by the wearer, it is mind kontrol so the observer associates this with evil when it is not, all evil can do is put its stink on good things, that stink then pollutes the mind of the observer, there is nothing inherently evil in any symbol/geometric shape in existence.
