Grumpy Owl
For several weeks now, Birmingham Mail has been running articles about the lengthy queues to get through security at Birmingham Airport, due to 'staff shortages'. Distraught mum flying for cancer treatment slams 'Birmingham Airport queues after missing flight' Quote A woman travelling to Germany for cancer treatment has slammed Birmingham Airport's "ridiculous queues" after missing her flight. Devastated Jennifer Richardson, who didn't make it through security in time, was also visiting Nuremberg to see her ill mother. But Ms Richardson is now embroiled in a row with BHX which claims the mum-of-four should have arrived earlier. The 38-year-old is arguing she arrived plenty of time before her 6.15am flight on Thursday, May 19. And, despite forking out extra for Express Lane tickets, she was still forced to wait in mega queues stretching from security upstairs, all the way downstairs to check-in areas. The Kings Norton resident told BirminghamLive : "I paid extra for priority but had to queue up with everyone else. I was there 90 minutes before. Everyone, regardless of priority, or even business class, were forced to wait in the same, long queue. From: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/distraught-mum-flying-cancer-treatment-24002230 So despite the incessant stream of news articles in the Birmingham Mail of late, telling of passengers who missed flights due to queues to get through security checks, this woman chooses to arrive 90 minutes before her flight is due to leave, and its the airport's fault? It's always been the case that the advice gven to travellers is to arrive at least 2 hours before your flight departs, and from my own previous experience, its usually ended up with having to sit around in the departure lounge for an hour or more. (I've always believed this 'advice' was given so that flyers would be tempted to spend money either in the duty-free shop, or at the other numerous over-priced shops, bars and restaurants around the departure lounge) Now one would think, that with all these numerous stories about lengthy queues to get through security, one might think "hmm, perhaps to be on the safe side I should get there extra early, maybe three hours, just to make sure I don't miss my flight". I certainly would. I can sympathise if she paid extra for 'Express Lane' tickets, but ultimately its just a waste of money.
Grumpy Owl
Ukrainian mum thought she was being scammed due to UK being 'too good to be true' Quote A Ukrainian mum of six who fled the Russian invasion was worried she was being scammed as life in the UK is 'too good to be true'. Liliya Onopa and her six children moved into a bungalow created for her by a small community in Chepstow, Wales, with her three youngest kids settling in well at the nearby St Mary's RC Primary School. Liliya, speaking to WalesOnline through a translator while she continues to learn English, said she could not believe the luxuries of life in Britain and her new home in Wales. “There are even scissors for manicures,” Liliya told WalesOnline. The community worked tirelessly to ensure the house met the standards required to house Liliya and her boys while they sorted out the family's visas. She said: "There were even slippers for us all. It’s those little things. When we came here for the first night there was a hot meal for the children." Her translator, Julia Dubin, said: “She kept asking: ‘Why? Is it a scam? I don’t understand why people are doing so much for us.’ But I keep saying to her that it’s different here. "The people here want to help each other and they are desperate to help her. I tell her that there doesn’t have to be a ‘why’.” From: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/uk-news/ukrainian-mum-thought-being-scammed-24028961 It's nice to hear that she's having a lovely life now she has escaped from this war in Ukraine. It's easy for anyone to have a nice life when everything is handed to them on a plate. But mark my words sweetheart, when the handouts stop and you have to start paying for things with your own money, that's when you'll realise what a scam this country is. The only people being scammed in the UK are the good decent honest citizens who were born and raised here and have spent their whole lives working hard to try and earn enough money to get by, pay the bills, and save money to buy their own home.
Grumpy Owl
E.On UK boss warns 40% of customers face fuel poverty Quote One of the UK's biggest energy suppliers has warned that up to 40% of its customers will be in fuel poverty by October as it called on the government to help struggling homes. E.On UK boss Michael Lewis said the rise in energy prices is "unprecedented" and a growing number of its customers are in arrears. The government is facing calls to levy a windfall tax on oil and gas firms. Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said Rishi Sunak will look at all options. "We will review everything," he told the BBC, adding: "We've got £22bn in the next 12 months of help to those people who need it the most." From: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61541294 Umm, this is YOUR fault and you want the Government to help bail out YOUR customers? How about YOU reduce your prices? And where has this "£22bn" come from that the Government suddenly has to "help those who need it the most"? The idea of a "windfall tax" sounds great to the communists and socialists, but in practical terms, the oil and gas firms would just increase their prices further in order to offset this 'tax' and maintain their profit levels. So in the end, nobody really benefits, apart from the Government and the oil and gas firms. 2

spideysensei
What does everyone think about the recent spate of alleged violence against football players after pitch invasions? It's getting a lot of publicity and it's making me wonder if any of it is engineered/false flagged. Top comments on the sky sports youtube vids of course express the reaction and offer the solutions to the 'problem' - ban pitch invasions, increase security/fencing etc.

They see a chance to take it out on someone from "the other side" and it kicks off. Only way to stop it is to bring back fencing and we know what that led to.

Football is rigged these days (not that it wasn't in the past). Player misses penalty in 2-2 draw and sets up grand finale for the last day. Favourites for the title go 0-2 down at home and come back to win 3-2. Scripted? Not half.

Sit down, Waldo
Gene-edited tomatoes could soon be sold in England A bill will be introduced on Wednesday to allow commercial growing of gene-edited crops in England. The technique is currently not used for food production in the UK because of rules set by the EU but Brexit has enabled the UK to set its own rules.
