Nice to meet U2: Wheelchair-bound Pope Francis beams with joy as he shakes hands with Bono at Rome university

Just look at that handshake.

U2 frontman Bono Vox and a wheelchair-bound Pope Francis launched a women's education foundation together in Rome on Thursday. The Pope inaugurated the Scholas Occurrentes International Educational Movement on May 19 during a meeting with young people in Italy's capital. The event took place on Thursday evening at the Pontifical Urban University, called the Urbaniana, which lies within walking distance of St. Peter's Square.

On the news they mentioned monkeypox again and said it's not an epidemic or pandemic like we've been used to

(As you see, an interesting use of words)

I also heard separately on radio 4, the mention of the importance of contact tracing

(When I looked into contact tracing in 2020, I heard voices I respected in the NHS saying that the system we already had in place was sidestepped. Privatisation. Control. Secrecy. I read that some of our data was sent to America. Wasn't that Serco and / or G4S?)

..... 4 more people in England have been diagnosed. The risk to the public remains very low although it appears that the individuals caught it in the UK.

Let's go to our global health correspondent  !!

(Naomi Grimley live in South West London)

Are we looking then at some community transmission of this disease?

Yes that's right. The UKHSA thinks there has been some community transmission, but as you stressed in your introduction, they very much think that this will be a cluster, not something like an epidemic outbreak or a pandemic that we've been used to with covid.

Monkeypox is a rare viral infection and usually it is connected with travel to travel to West Africa and certainly the first case that was discovered in the UK this year on the 7th May did have a travel link to Nigeria, but since then they have had other cases and the last 4 have all been in gay or bisexual men, and it's thought they caught it in London. So That's why health officials have been saying people should be on the lookout for rashs, for unusual bumps on their bodies and also the usual fever type symptoms that come with this monkey pox, so that's swollen lymph nodes and obviously chills and feeling very hot

The same lady; the global health correspondent Naomi Grimley was just on the BBC news again. This time she was in the studio, on the 17th she was at 'home'. She talks strangely, almost robotic, wide eyed, with a smile or smirk.

I heard a lot of the recognisable layers of the script.

"Because as we learned with covid early action is important"

I'm glad Monkeypox will have its own section now, as theres two good threads running, and we have to keep an eye on where they're going with this.

Seems like a good reason to use old non-tech machinery. Surely there must be someone around who still knows how to steer a tractor? Perhaps all those "work from home" public sector workers could be drafted in to harvest veg. Then they'd know what a day's work actually meant.

Self-scan supermarket tills and the rows over their use

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61501128

Petition

More than 117K signatures obtained.

Quote

These new tills are not accessible for people who don't have credit cards and can only use cash or those with little confidence to use these self-service card-only tills - myself included.

I challenge Ken Murphy Chief Executive of Tesco to meet with me for a discussion to explain his 'replace people with machines policy'. I want Ken Murphy to bring staff back to do check-outs on the till and not have a replace people with machines policy.

Not only they are replacing human staff with robots, I am also concerned about the camera staring at you so close.

Comments from a jabber (I'm sure of it! He was probably first in the queue and wears a badge "Covid is Real. I had it!". 🙄)

In all due respects to the petitioner, I to am 78 but manage these ok . For people unable to use this method of payment , go to the normal tills !! It's called progress , ant it isn't just TESCO !!

Denise Ann Gee says.... (Paraphrasing) Do nothing and move along now. I have no clue how this human to machine policy is going to affect us....
all that matters to Tesco if profit. Shop else where if you can. Hopefully others may have more ethics.

Denise is also an avid supporter of Covid jab. She has already booked for her 6th booster ahead of everybody else.

I read that same article yesterday. It reminded me of a recent trip to Matalan, first time I had been since before the 'pandemic' started.

They didn't give you any choice. Unless you're paying with cash, you're FORCED to use the 'self-service' checkouts. It wasn't a very user-friendly experience, so I doubt I'll be shopping there again.

For several weeks now, Birmingham Mail has been running articles about the lengthy queues to get through security at Birmingham Airport, due to 'staff shortages'.

Distraught mum flying for cancer treatment slams 'Birmingham Airport queues after missing flight'

Quote

A woman travelling to Germany for cancer treatment has slammed Birmingham Airport's "ridiculous queues" after missing her flight. Devastated Jennifer Richardson, who didn't make it through security in time, was also visiting Nuremberg to see her ill mother.

But Ms Richardson is now embroiled in a row with BHX which claims the mum-of-four should have arrived earlier. The 38-year-old is arguing she arrived plenty of time before her 6.15am flight on Thursday, May 19.

And, despite forking out extra for Express Lane tickets, she was still forced to wait in mega queues stretching from security upstairs, all the way downstairs to check-in areas.

The Kings Norton resident told BirminghamLive : "I paid extra for priority but had to queue up with everyone else. I was there 90 minutes before. Everyone, regardless of priority, or even business class, were forced to wait in the same, long queue.

From: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/distraught-mum-flying-cancer-treatment-24002230

So despite the incessant stream of news articles in the Birmingham Mail of late, telling of passengers who missed flights due to queues to get through security checks, this woman chooses to arrive 90 minutes before her flight is due to leave, and its the airport's fault?

It's always been the case that the advice gven to travellers is to arrive at least 2 hours before your flight departs, and from my own previous experience, its usually ended up with having to sit around in the departure lounge for an hour or more. (I've always believed this 'advice' was given so that flyers would be tempted to spend money either in the duty-free shop, or at the other numerous over-priced shops, bars and restaurants around the departure lounge)

Now one would think, that with all these numerous stories about lengthy queues to get through security, one might think "hmm, perhaps to be on the safe side I should get there extra early, maybe three hours, just to make sure I don't miss my flight".

I certainly would. I can sympathise if she paid extra for 'Express Lane' tickets, but ultimately its just a waste of money.

Ukrainian mum thought she was being scammed due to UK being 'too good to be true'

A Ukrainian mum thought she was being scammed after her life in Britain was 'too good to be true'

Quote

A Ukrainian mum of six who fled the Russian invasion was worried she was being scammed as life in the UK is 'too good to be true'.

Liliya Onopa and her six children moved into a bungalow created for her by a small community in Chepstow, Wales, with her three youngest kids settling in well at the nearby St Mary's RC Primary School. Liliya, speaking to WalesOnline through a translator while she continues to learn English, said she could not believe the luxuries of life in Britain and her new home in Wales.

“There are even scissors for manicures,” Liliya told WalesOnline. The community worked tirelessly to ensure the house met the standards required to house Liliya and her boys while they sorted out the family's visas.

She said: "There were even slippers for us all. It’s those little things. When we came here for the first night there was a hot meal for the children."

Her translator, Julia Dubin, said: “She kept asking: ‘Why? Is it a scam? I don’t understand why people are doing so much for us.’ But I keep saying to her that it’s different here.

"The people here want to help each other and they are desperate to help her. I tell her that there doesn’t have to be a ‘why’.”

It's nice to hear that she's having a lovely life now she has escaped from this war in Ukraine.

It's easy for anyone to have a nice life when everything is handed to them on a plate.

But mark my words sweetheart, when the handouts stop and you have to start paying for things with your own money, that's when you'll realise what a scam this country is.

The only people being scammed in the UK are the good decent honest citizens who were born and raised here and have spent their whole lives working hard to try and earn enough money to get by, pay the bills, and save money to buy their own home.

E.On UK boss warns 40% of customers face fuel poverty

Quote

One of the UK's biggest energy suppliers has warned that up to 40% of its customers will be in fuel poverty by October as it called on the government to help struggling homes.

E.On UK boss Michael Lewis said the rise in energy prices is "unprecedented" and a growing number of its customers are in arrears.

The government is facing calls to levy a windfall tax on oil and gas firms.

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi said Rishi Sunak will look at all options.

"We will review everything," he told the BBC, adding: "We've got £22bn in the next 12 months of help to those people who need it the most."

From: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61541294

Umm, this is YOUR fault and you want the Government to help bail out YOUR customers? 🤔

How about YOU reduce your prices?

And where has this "£22bn" come from that the Government suddenly has to "help those who need it the most"?

The idea of a "windfall tax" sounds great to the communists and socialists, but in practical terms, the oil and gas firms would just increase their prices further in order to offset this 'tax' and maintain their profit levels.

So in the end, nobody really benefits, apart from the Government and the oil and gas firms.

What does everyone think about the recent spate of alleged violence against football players after pitch invasions? It's getting a lot of publicity and it's making me wonder if any of it is engineered/false flagged. Top comments on the sky sports youtube vids of course express the reaction and offer the solutions to the 'problem' - ban pitch invasions, increase security/fencing etc.

It's the end of the season, people are losing their stupid brains over the results of their teams and all the build-up of anger and frustration over everything comes out. They see a chance to take it out on someone from "the other side" and it kicks off. Only way to stop it is to bring back fencing and we know what that led to.
