National Grid site fire shuts down power cable between France and UK

Quote

A fire at a National Grid site has shut down a power cable linking electricity supplies between the UK and France.

Twelve fire crews were sent to the site in Sellindge near Ashford on Wednesday, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said.

National Grid said the site had been evacuated, and there have been no reports of casualties.

National Grid ESO, which balances energy supplies in the UK, said it expects to "continue supplying electricity safely and securely".

A power cable running under the English Channel was "not operating" after the fire, the National Grid said.

Bit of a coincidence considering how pissed off france are about being "stabbed in the back" over the submarine deal 🤣

That'll be the cable that brings in the 'power made from renewable resources' much publicisd by EDF forgetting to mention that its 90% nuclear generated

Funny that, you don't hear the green howls from the anti nuke/climate change apostles about it as they scrutinise their bills

First ever rare baby red squirrels born at Longleat Safari Park
https://www.wiltshirelive.co.uk/whats-on/first-ever-rare-baby-red-5933974

'They are part of a UK-wide breeding programme for the rare, native mammal which aims to reintroduce the species back into the wild.

The last red squirrel sighting in Wiltshire was in 1965 and they’re now virtually extinct in England, except for isolated populations on the Isle of Wight, Brownsea Island, Formby, the Lake District and parts of Northumberland.'

Some wholesome news for a change.

how to get rid of grey squirrels

The recovery of the European pine marten has been credited with reducing the population of invasive grey squirrels in Ireland. Where the range of the expanding European pine marten population meets that of the grey squirrel, the population of the grey squirrels quickly retreats and the red squirrel population recovers. Because the grey squirrel spends more time on the ground than the red squirrel, which co-evolved with the pine marten, they are thought to be far more likely to come in contact with this predator

As much as i applaud the efforts being undertaken to reintroduce the reds (and other extinct or extremely rare species) to their traditional habitats and the destruction of invasive foreign species i get the feeling this isn't being done for the good of the people  but ties in more with the rewilding agenda and the movement of people from the countryside to cities

There also seems to be a lot of stories of this nature suddenly appearing,in the last month alone i have read of beavers in scotland, wild boar in the uk and the potential reintroduction of lynx and wolf as well as scottish wildcats and the efforts to increase the dwindling population

Once a site has the designation of SSSI slapped on it nothing can happen in that area without protracted legal battles you only have to look at some of the roadbuilding instances in the last 30 years to see examples of it being used to further the climae change agenda

It's probably to wind native Brits up that don't feel protected too to be fair. That's where I read about it anyway, on Twitter from Nationalists.

I've actually had the pleasure of seing reds in their native habitat in Scotland and love to see stories where real efforts are being made to conserve native wildlife however with so many years of seeing a lot of those efforts being hijacked by climate change alarmists to further this agenda or that agenda i'm instantly on alert for the story behind the story so to speak

I personally think they should leave the greys alone, they might be a valuable source of protein soon ! but dont eat the brains as they do in the southern u.s states, they carry a squirelly form of creutzfeldt jakob disease otherwise known as mad cow ,which, surprisingly is also getting some media time of late !

I agree although they have been talking about reintroducing the Lynx for years.

Let's be honest though Enig as much as it pains me to say it the red squirrels are betas compared to the Chad Grey's. The British reds deserved to be wiped out their ancestors hid in trees like cowards.

Facts the woke mob don't want to hear.

"Grey squirrels also transmit a squirrelpox virus which can normally kill red squirrels."

What if they said us Brits were betas though?

Badgers have problems too, but it's still their land.

Rightly called out as a shill puppet in the comments. Loved the character - as I loved OFAH - but they're all the bloody same under the makeup.

Never saw him play, but my dad did plenty of times (Wolves fan in London that went to lots of neutral games) - said he was one of the greatest finishers he saw and was the king of rolling it inside the post.

I only ever saw him as a pundit and loved how he'd regularly destroy Gary Newbon, who was widely despised by most West Midlands football fans.

As annoying as it is I think it's just ignorance. I brought one of his video messages to suprise an elderly relative this year. I probably wouldn't have if I'd have seen this.

I think he was a good egg.

Yeah, it's always disappointing when someone we like does something like this. I do think a lot of people are naive, rather than malicious in intent, but I also think that we all (who are of sound mind) have a responsibility to find out what the truth of any matter is.

God bless him. One of the best strikers I ever saw play. Spurs at home was the fixture I always looked for first at the start of every season back in the 60s. It was always a great occasion. The 1967/68 Charity Shield was one the great games between the two and I remember it as if it were yesterday. Greavsie didn't score that day but Pat Jennings did.
