Interesting description of Serco there, "private prison operator". This is the same organisation that is being contracted by the UK Government to house illegal immigrants, sorry, "asylum seekers and refugees" in hotels, and is also trying to get private landlords to provide accommodation.

Looks like Serco is going to become an increasingly wealthy private company. Things really are going in the wrong direction. We need less of all these things not expansion and growth of these parasitic private companies. 1

I think you'll find that Serco is already a very wealthy company, the phrase "fingers in pies" doesn't really come close to describing them. They're one of those 'big corporates' that most people will have never heard of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serco From some brief research I've just done, they work extensively across public sectors, including military bases and defence, and have a history of hiring former government officials and politicians - the revolving door - which raises serious concerns about undue influence and conflicts of interest. Despite some past exits from direct clinical care, Serco is still heavily involved in the healthcare sector, particularly through facilities management within hospitals and crucial health-related assessment services like PIP for the DWP. Their history also includes significant controversies around data and accountability... As recently as February 2024, the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) issued enforcement notices against Serco, ordering them to stop unlawfully using facial recognition and fingerprint scanning to monitor over 2,000 of their own employees' attendance. The ICO found they failed to establish a lawful basis for this and highlighted the power imbalance preventing genuine employee choice. Furthermore, Serco is a major contractor for the UK government's electronic monitoring (tagging) services, which includes devices that incorporate biometric features like fingerprint scans for verification; they officially took over the main Electronic Monitoring contract in May 2024. This follows a massive scandal where Serco (alongside G4S) overcharged the government by tens of millions of pounds for electronic tagging contracts, even billing for individuals who were dead, in prison, or abroad. This led to a large repayment and a significant fine as part of a Deferred Prosecution Agreement, where Serco admitted to fraud and false accounting. Given all this background – the company's extensive reach into public services, their demonstrated inclination towards expansive data collection, their history of accountability issues, and instances where profit has clearly outweighed public good – Serco's presence at this government meeting last month, discussing "proposals" in this context, is profoundly concerning. 1

Not just Serco, but G4S as well, both ripping off the taxpayer. Yet despite admitting to "fraud and false accounting", the Government continues to give them millions of pounds in contract work.

Grumpy Owl
Yay, just what this country needs, another left-wing socialist party! Discussions ongoing about new party, says Corbyn Quote Jeremy Corbyn has said "discussions are ongoing" after ex-Labour MP Zarah Sultana announced she was quitting the party to co-found a new left-wing party with him. The ex-Labour leader congratulated Sultana on her "principled decision" to leave and said he was "delighted that she will help us build a real alternative". He said "the democratic foundations of a new kind of political party will soon take shape" but stopped short of providing details as to who would lead it. from: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0wvkg492ro It's sad that its taken many people this long to realise that the Labour party and the Conservative party have been pretty much the same thing for many years now. Quote Ian Lavery, Labour MP for Blyth, told the BBC's World at One: "Perhaps she thinks she hasn't left the Labour party, but the Labour party has left her. "People are really fed up of the two party system with regards to Labour and with regards to Conservatives." "And I think that there is a huge appetite for a left wing alternative to the two mainstream parties." My emphasis in bold. The sad reality is that there have been other 'alternatives' for many years, but people either keep voting Labour or Conservative, or choose not to vote for other parties because they have been conditioned by the media to believe there are 'only two choices', or worse, people don't bother voting at all. Quote Adrian Ramsey, co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, said people looking for the "progressive alternative to Labour" should "come behind the Green Party". Quote After being kicked out of the Labour Party, Corbyn successfully stood as an independent candidate in the 2024 general election and has since formed an alliance with four other independent MPs, who share similar views on the Israel-Gaza conflict. So as well as the Greens, there is also the Workers Party, founded by George Galloway, which also has a very strong pro-Palestine stance. And lets not forget there is still a 'Communist Party Of Great Britain'. Any need for a 'new' left-wing party then really? It's almost like they are trying to start a new party just to 'split' or dilute the left-wing vote. It seems to me that the pendulum is swinging the other way - while the (right-wing) Conservatives were in power, we had all number of new 'right-wing' political parties being set up, which despite their best intentions (eg For Britain, Heritage Party etc) never really gained any traction, not while you had the Establishment-backed Brexit Party / Reform UK hogging the headlines and airwaves. Now we have (Left-wing) Labour in power, can we expect to see some new Establishment-backed left-wing socialist/communist party shoving all others to the side? Quote Speaking to GB News' Chopper's Political Podcast, former Corbyn adviser Andrew Murray said discussions about a new party had been going on "since Jeremy Corbyn was kicked out of the Labour Party" but they were "turbocharged by Keir Starmer's response to the crisis in Gaza". He said the name of the party would be chosen by members but added that The Collective and Arise have been bandied about. He predicted the new party would immediately get 100,000 members and 10% in the polls with more to come as an election approached. Quite weirdly, I have come across that name "The Collective" before, it was a couple of years ago now, but I randomly had some leaflet pushed through my letterbox, from some prospective MP or councillor ahead of some election, they were standing as an independent, but as well as pushing some pro-Palestine stuff, they talked about organising like-minded independents into a 'Collective' alliance of sorts, which could then evolve into a political party.
