A retired Lancashire police inspector was spared a custodial sentence even though he was caught with downloaded pornographic images of young boys on his laptop. He picked up a 12-month community order for this offence and, because he is retired, I must assume he'll still receive a nice, fat index-linked police pension. Who says crime doesn't pay, but he can thank his lucky stars he didn't get nicked for making misogynistic remarks to a woman football referee or posting disapproving comments about transgenderism.

Pontins at Camber Sands near Rye and another one in Prestatyn are closing with immediate effect it was announce yesterday by it's owners=  Britannia Hotels,  A.K.A. 'The Asylum Seekers landlords'! The Camber Sands camp was built in 1968, covers 32 acres and has 820 self catering chalets! It's a complete mystery to me how they propose to make a living from two closed down holiday parks? I went there years ago, watta mistaka to maka the mice all wore overalls and, wiped their feet whenever they Left the chalets, I knew it was bad when I found out that they used skunks as air fresheners, and confetti as toilet wipes, with a sign saying 'IN THE INTERESTS OF ECONOMY, PLEASE USE BOTH SIDES'!  What really, really 'boils my piss' is the fact that they have the neck to call themselves  'Britannia', and another thing that 'boils my piss' are those little white kettles they have there, they're excellent for that job!

Surely can't be worse than the "house party" camps I used to work in: Erna Low's Enjoy Britain Ltd. (aka Earn a low wage). They used to take over schools and colleges, and run holidays for unaccompanied rich foreign kids. We (the general assistants) were supposed to wash up, clean (often vomit), stop them getting drunk (as under age) and screwing each other. Ha ha! We had some good times, though. Like when I set part of the sea front at Eastbourne on fire while, er, "smoking", and had to do a quick runner back to the college we'd taken over.

Further investigation show that they closed down another Pontins at Brean Sands last June and renovated it at a cost of £2 million to house up to 900 EDF working on the new Hinckley Point C Power Station around 15 miles from the camp, with a fleet of buses laid on to transport the workers! Buses make a change from Dinghies I suppose!

Seems to me it's also part of the ongoing destruction of our heritage / established businesses. At the time I saw a local businessman on the news expressing how much hospitality business would be lost ... and so on 

 

As a point of interest, I also saw two separate features on the news about mice / rats, hairy plug holes spider webs etc in holiday camps. Anything to put people off I suppose, and to discuss shortages of staff, etc.

Pontins at Camber Sands has closed. They'll probably house migrants there. I worked there for a season in 1974 and had the time of my life. Another part of British working class culture allowed to decay, fall apart, and be replaced.

Every year, for a few weeks at a time, my local Reach rag the Birmingham Mail puts out a number of 'horror stories' about popular Pontins holiday camps.

 

Yes, one easily gets the impression there is either some vendetta against Pontins, or there really is a concerted effort to put people off from staying there.

The new powers would allow the Government to inspect the bank accounts of anyone claiming a social security benefit, which includes pensioners getting the state pension, MPs debating the matter have warned.
