Bird flu could mutate to become even more harmful to humans due to the ongoing unprecedented outbreak, experts fear.

Cases of the killer H5N1 strain, which are at record levels, have already jumped from birds to foxes, otters and mink.

It has sparked huge concern among top virologists that the deadly pathogen is now one step closer to spreading in humans — a hurdle which has so far stopped it from triggering a pandemic.

Paul Nurse to co-host Charlie Rose on avian flu

March 22, 2006

Rockefeller President Paul Nurse will make his second appearance on Charlie Rose tonight, when he co-hosts, with Rose, an hour-long discussion on the threat of avian flu. The show, which is to be the first in a series of science-themed Charlie Rose shows co-hosted with Nurse, will air on PBS television stations nationwide.

The discussion, which will include an overview of the ongoing avian influenza crisis, an evaluation of domestic and global preparations for a flu pandemic, lessons from the 1918 flu pandemic, as well as the science of the virus and other medical aspects of flu, features several of the nation’s leading experts in influenza and public health policy. Susan Wojcicki, YouTube’s chief executive and one of the most prominent women in Silicon Valley, said on Thursday that she was stepping down from her longtime role leading the internet’s most popular video service.

Ms. Wojcicki’s departure ... adds to a lengthening list of women who have left senior roles at big Silicon Valley companies in recent years.

“Today, after nearly 25 years, I’ve decided to step back from my role and start a new chapter focused on my family, health and personal projects I’m passionate about,” Ms. Wojcicki wrote in a letter to employees, which was published on YouTube’s official blog.

Neal Mohan, the company’s chief product officer, will take over as chief executive.

I can't help but be suspicious about these high profile resignations.

Regarding Sturgeon for example, there is no bloody way it's about trans etc, no more than BoJo was about party's ?

BIg tech have been subpoenaed in the USA, could be related to Wojcicki? I don't know.

I know Jacina Ardern stepping down is/was a good thing. I genuinely do not know anything about Sturgeon, which is weird considering she operates a lot closer to me than Ardern did.

The ubiquitous Katie Price has moved upmarket and is now featuring in the Guardian and not the Sun. Why? Allegedly, Harvey has been the butt of jokes shared by serving Met police officers on social media. I'm not defending the police because mocking the disabled is a wicked and boorish thing to do, but she does push the poor lad into the limelight doesn't she? It's a shame that poor Harvey can't live his life out of his mother's shadow.

"not treating the death as suspicious" 🤔

Body of man, 19, recovered from water at Willenhall Memorial Park

Quote

The body of a 19-year-old man has been recovered from a pool at a Willenhall park. The man's body was found in a pool at Willenhall Memorial Park, in Willenhall, after police attended at around 8am today (February 19).

West Midlands Police is not treating the death as suspicious, however the force has launched an investigation into the man's death. Parts of the park were cordoned off earlier this morning while emergency services attended the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We have recovered a body from a pool in Willenhall Memorial Park off Pinson Road, Willenhall today. At around 8am police officers along with other emergency services attended the location and sadly a body of a 19-year-old man was recovered.

Not suspicious, but needs an investigation? The police were also pretty quick to know who this person was and to contact their family.

Because animals are dirty and unclean, and nothing to do with the shit you force-feed your kids?

Zoo visitors urged to wash hands to avoid illness

Quote

People are being urged to practice correct hygiene when visiting petting farms and zoos during the half-term holiday, to avoid stomach bugs.

Hands should be washed, after contact with animals and especially before eating and drinking, the UK Health Security Agency West Midlands said.

Visitors may have touched fences or other surfaces in areas with animals.

Many animals could carry parasites and germs that could affect young children and pregnant women, the UKHSA stated.

Dr Roger Gajraj, West Midlands consultant in communicable disease control leading on gastro-intestinal infections for the agency, said hands should be washed thoroughly with soap and warm water.

"Thousands of people in the West Midlands region visit farm attractions each year, and while the number of people who become ill is proportionally quite small, many cases of illness could be avoided by practicing the correct hand hygiene," he said.

I'm sure I've heard this "wash your hands" narrative before...
