The mainstream media model is nearly defunct because the general public are now craving unfiltered information A mainstream newspaper is owned by a 'proprietor' who then hires an editor to act as a gatekeeper who will look at all the work from the sub editors and then decide what gets published. The editors job is to ensure that the newspaper reflects the values and point of view of the proprietor So if an editor thinks a piece is against the bias of the proprietor the piece will be 'spiked' and won't be published. This is how piers morgan got to be an editor. Prior to that he was writing tittle-tattle in a celebrity gossip column where he was muck raking through peoples business for money. Then he got a call from rupert murdoch who obviously recognised a man that would help him realise his vision of titilation over substance So journalists in the mainstream media don't really have any freedom and that's why their model is coming to an end To get the real information you have to look outside the mainstream, corporate media where people are not beholden to special interests and can actually speak their mind.
