JCP
The movie "Thunderheart" is one of my favorites. I have always felt a close connection with Native Americans and their culture and this movie made me feel even more linked with them. Val Kilmer was really good in this movie but Graham Greene shined. Someone called "Nightbird" commented on YT under this video: For those of us with Native blood..this was more than a movie. It touched our heart. It was a reality check. A wake-up call. And a reminder of how strong our people are..and how much we have suffered and endured. It doesn't matter if you're a full blood native or a 10 percenter. This movie is a lesson to us all that in the end..after all the tears..and anger..and bullshit..we are brothers & sisters. And we must stand together..or fall divided.

pi3141
Oh I've got to many favourites, but I like films that portray real life experiences, they are best for me. This one is about the pointlessness of violence. Bring Me The Head of Alfredo Garcia https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0071249/

pi3141
Then there's Daywatch and Nightwatch (Perhaps a bit anti-pc as its Russian, still good art is good art)
Cleo
Steve Martin's 'Parenthood'. A brilliant film, with a serious theme, masquerading as a comedy. Brilliant actng from a stellar cast, in particular a young Keanu Reeves. I love it.

BFWLTS1
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oK-2_OsBe0s If I could only ever watch a single film, it would hands down be this. It’s very open to interpretation, but there are some very strong Gnosticism themes going on in it; the Demiurge pulling the strings of the material world and man’s descent into matter, etc. Edited May 17, 2022 by BFWLTS1
pi3141
How about some Westerns - Gregory Peck in a great film, again with a powerful message about the pointlessness of violence. One of the best westerns imo
pi3141
Billy Two Hats, an intriguing film, a different kind of Western with some hard hitting and magical moments. A great film.
pi3141
Peckinpah's classic. Bob Dylan, Chris Christopherson and James Coburn, a tale of violence and where it leads, with a great soundtrack and beautiful cinematography and fantastic, realistic period western acting. I really reccomend this one -

Depends on the mood My sentiment entirely. A masterpiece, very stylish and unique. I saw it on the big screen for the first time when it was re-released, after Kubrick's death, (after being withdrawn in the UK for nearly 20 years) at the Odeon, Marble Arch in March 2000. I thought back then the Minister of the Interior, played by Anthony Sharp, could very well have been the then Home Secretary, Jack Straw of the New Labour government, with those words and policy to free up prison space for political offenders and treating the common criminal with the Ludovico Technique (aversion therapy). 1
JCP
I thought the Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe was pretty good. The quote in the movie seems befitting for today: Rise and Rise Again ~ Until Lambs Become Lions

Skotfreezy
I’m not gonna state the obvious: They Live. I think women beater Steven Seagal had some good action movies like Fire Down Below. He kinda turned into a ButterBean now though.

JCP
The Legend of Bagger Vance - Directed by Robert Redford A mythological story about a depressed World War I veteran who finds his authentic self during a golf tournament, thanks to the help of the spiritual guide acting as his caddy. After we have been smashed, bashed, torn, or twisted by a terrible tragedy or personal difficulty, finding our way back to hope and joy can be a daunting journey. Sometimes we lack the strength and willpower to pick ourselves up and return to the fray. That's when we turn to a spiritual guide who can help us find what we need to get back home. In the spiritual life, this process — when the false self is purged and the authentic self is retrieved — is recognized as being the critical step in personal renewal. The Legend of Baggar Vance demonstrates that this need not be an arduous journey nor one assumed without companionship and wise counsel. As Baggar reminds us: "God is happiest when he sees his children at play." https://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/films/reviews/view/2444/the-legend-of-bagger-vance The only part of the movie that I question was the ending, where old Hardy (Jack Lemmon) died on the golf course and his spirit is beckoned into the light symbolized by the sun over Baggers shoulder as he stands on a distant dune ...... a message to go to the light after death?
