Here is something new for the forum a thread dedicated to all things hand made, this has been a passion of mine for many years, here is one of  series of handmade crafts that are fast dieing out in moderninty but they still survive.

This was in the bush craft post

 

 

 

The top one is ATS 34 hardened to 60.5 RC with beef wood handle and 316 stainless bolster

 the second is BG42 hardened to 63 RC , brilliant steel even at this hardness the edge will not chip and the blade will never tarnish or rust ,the downside is you need a linisher to sharpen it but you can dress an entire beast without touching it up, the handle is ivory and the bolsters are brass the third is a cut throat razor I did with mother of pearl handles.

I have made over 1000 knives  in 35 or so years and have them in a number of countries

 

I have also been building RC planes and flying them for many years crashed a heap of them as well

Nice blades, I have only made one knife from an old file, a freind has it now for his own pleasure, I have also made a few cattys like the following.

 

She is a bit of a gimmic but works nicely, ih as a touch trigger laser green torch sight and an AR style grip, the fork is from a titanium catty by GZK

Reminds me of the aran jumpers my mum's auntie used to make when i was a young child. Itchy and scratchy things they were

The itchy ones are normally made from the tougher wools like herdwick or rough fell sheep, we kept the parkland cheviot types for many years which could be worn against the skin without any discomfort.

An aran normally takes about 90 hours to knit with about 25 K seperate stitches, she sometimes frequents the charity shops looking for wool when we don't prepare our own from local rare breeds.

Apologies if this is in the wrong place and I won't be offended if it is removed.

 

I'm restoring (fingers crossed) my doll from the 1960s so that I can show it to my granddaughter - at the moment it looks like Regan from The Exorcist so I don't really want to mark her for life. I've never done it before but have nothing to lose! The eyes are the closing, opening type and look like they have been eaten away so I've sent for new ones and manually removed the old ones! They are a metal, round capsule with plastic eye front bits that I got out by heating her head then flicking them out with a spoon. They are in a round chamber in the head very much like our eyes........this all sounds so macabre! The eye opening is 2cm that opens into a 2 and a half cm spherical chamber. I could always pop a Lindor in each one!

 

I've viewed videos of the process from very kind, talented people but I know I'll break them!

 

I need a four-pronged instrument that will dilate the eye so that I can place them back in. Now then - I have put various phrases into search engines and basically come up with unimaginable implements for dilating bodily orifices, an education I cannot turn back from! .........oh lord, why?! The thing is, they would be just the thing I need to do the job. I am not buying something like that from Ebay! 

 

My question: Since people on here have healthy brain cogs - can any of you think of an instrument to dilate a 2cm vinyl eye?

Hi. From your description maybe a couple of pairs of bent-nosed circlip pliers would help. You may need an extra pair of hands to help out though.
