Its fear because the pressure is coming down from above, from the mega-corporations and governments and it creates a new social norm of what is considered 'politically correct' and most people are terrified of straying off the hymn sheet of political correctness and then being branded a ***insert nasty insult word***

 

You have to be pretty resilient to tell the truth in modern britain because you will come under attack from multiple directions. For example in scotland you can get yourself into deep water commenting on the whole trans thing
