Does Anything Really Exist? | Understanding Existence

Well @Mr H my friend that is a very interesting question and I must watch the video, basically I think you  could look at it from three very crude perspectives

1 the belief that of course things exist I can see it and I can touch it therefore it's real

2 Nothing exists until your brain decodes it as such,so therefore  nothing actually exists

3 and my favorite yes things exist only 50% of the time ,but maybe not as our brain decodes them, meaning if you are looking at a tree your brain decodes it as a tree, but what if your eyes are actually looking at an energy pattern vibrating at a certain frequency  and there really isn't a tree there at all, and since everything constantly  moves in and out of existence that is why I say 50% of the time

I remember when I was 9 or 10 in primary school the teacher said when someone talks there are actually no words passing between you ,your ears pick up a vibration turn it into electrical signals and your brain decodes it as words and your eyes turn light into electrical signals and the brain decodes it , I still remember to this day thinking well what am I actually looking at then. I understand the standard explanation for sight, light reflects off an object into the eye electrical signals are generated brain decodes it and blah blah blah you see what is in front of you . There is a couple of problems I see with that explanation

1 how does light reflect off say a dull object with a mat or uneven surface wouldn't the light be scattered in all directions

2 At night in the bush when it's pitch black It takes a good 15 minuets to get your night vision and you are able to make out objects( not that well though) particularly when using you peripheral  vision , so what is being reflected back into the eye ,certainly not light,so maybe light is just a contrast enhancer if you will, the more light the better you are able to differentiate between one energy pattern and another.

Its probably all bullshit but just my crude  thoughts on the subject.

This  is interesting as you can really delve into a number of different subjects ,universal consciousness ,the infinite energy if the plank field ,sub atomic partials that are moving in and out of existence continuously at a very high frequency rate to name a few

Haven't watched the video yet but I'd say everything exists.

When I say everything....even a unicorn. I guess we are talking about how we ought to define 'existence'

Whether you think something exists is relied upon your perception/ability.

For example, wifi signals, infrared, radiation, EMF exist yet we can't see it floating/travelling in the air until it is received by your equipment then you know the waves exist.

On 4/12/2022 at 7:52 AM, Someone said:

Seems to me,  your brain, whatever it is,  wherever it may be,  creates your "reality " constantly.  So things exist only as "you" have created them.

Yes I think that is correct to a certain extent ( how far that extent goes I haven't got a clue)  ,however I think you have to have a general consensus,  a basic set of rules if you will within this reality because it would be a rather lonely place ,if everyone had free will to create their own personal reality you would be the only one in it

Rupert is a nondualist in the advaita vedanta corner of things. While there are valuable lessons to be learned there i personally feel like there are alot of semantical issues being regurgitated within that particular circle and as a general framework for the world at large it feels a little incomplete.

This interview goes further into all of that though:

I highly recommend the whole channel if only for the diversity of viewpoints, very high interview quality and great comments most of the time.
