Elite US unit ready to fight in Ukraine if conflict ‘escalates’ – CBS

America’s 101st Airborne Division, deployed close to the Ukrainian border, would step in if NATO were attacked, its commanders said

The US Army's 101st Airborne Division would not hesitate to enter Ukraine should a conflict break out between Russia and NATO, CBS News reported on Friday citing the unit’s military commanders.

The elite division is currently conducting war games in Romania, close to the country’s border with the war-torn state.

The unit's commanders told CBS that they would be prepared to cross into Ukraine if the fighting escalates – without elaborating what that would entail – or if NATO were to come under attack. They highlighted that their current deployment in Europe, the first since WWII, is “to defend NATO territory.”

"We're ready to defend every inch of NATO soil”, Deputy Commander Brigadier General John Lubas told the news network.

In Romania, the 101st Airborne Division is holding joint live-fire ground and air assault exercises. According to Colonel Edwin Matthaidess, Commander of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, his division is the closest US unit to the fighting in Ukraine. He noted that the US troops, have been “closely watching” the Russian military while “building objectives to practice against” and organizing the drills to “replicate exactly what's going on" in Ukraine.

"It keeps us on our toes," he added.

In total, about 4,700 American soldiers from the 101st Airborne's base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, have been sent to Europe.

NATO has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the conflict and will not send its troops into Ukraine. In late June, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the US-led bloc would significantly increase the number of its forces on high alert from 40,000 to over 300,000.

Since the start of Russia’s military offensive on February 24, Ukraine has received substantial military aid from NATO countries, with billions of dollars’ worth of weaponry pouring into the country – which Moscow has repeatedly criticized.

The 101st Airborne Division, also known as the "Screaming Eagles," has a distinguished military history. It took part in the airborne operations during the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944 and in the Battle of the Bulge, where it fought in a complete encirclement. The unit was also involved in the Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Putin openly discusses global world order in speech 27/10/22

There are 'tectonic shifts of the whole global order', Putin says, as questions turn to Ukraine

Vladimir Putin is then asked what has changed in the world in the last year, for, as some suggest, it has been turned upside down.

He said: "What's happening in Ukraine in particular, these are not changes that are currently under way or are under way since the start of the special military operation.

"These changes have been happening for many years now. Some have been paying attention.

"These are tectonic shifts of the whole global order.

"First, it's all very calm, very tranquil... these plates are on the move constantly and then they come up against one another, the tensions build up and an earthquake happens.

"This is what happens here. First, an accumulation of tensions and then an earthquake.

"These tensions used to happen in the past. New centres of powers are emerging - I'm not the only one to say that.

"These changes are happening due to objective reasons."

Mr Putin said it is the "West that has driven us to this point" in Ukraine.

However, he said what is happening in Ukraine will "benefit Russia and its future" because it will "help reinforce its sovereignty - in all domains but in particular in its economic fields."

"In the past we were thinking we were turning into some kind of Islamic colony because we couldn't do anything without or Western partners," he said.

Mr Putin insisted Russia can "replace those who are leaving our markets" in the wake of the war in Ukraine.

Sounds like he's just calling out NATO and the West on what they've been up to during the last decade.

They've moved their business closer and closer to the Russian border, and are trying to use Ukraine to create their own NWO and displace millions of people. Putin's been watching this unfold and decided to take action earlier in 2022.

(Whether it's all a phoney war and load of BS is another thing.)

That's how it reads to me anyway.

UN Security Council votes against probe into US biolabs

The US, France, and Britain voted down Russia’s call to investigate “military-biological” activities in Ukraine

UN Security Council votes against probe into US biolabs

The UN Security Council has rejected Russia’s call for an international investigation into claims that the US used laboratories in Ukraine to develop biological weapons.

While China backed Russia’s proposal, the US, Britain, and France voted against it, and the ten rotating council members abstained.

Russia insists that the US and Ukraine have been violating the 1972 international convention that bans the development, production, and stockpiling of biological weapons. According to Moscow, several laboratories in Ukraine were working on a secret “military-biological” program, which involved studies and the stockpiling of samples of anthrax, cholera, and other infectious diseases.

Washington and Kiev both deny developing biological weapons. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in March that the laboratories were conducting “ordinary scientific research.”

I see nothing in the MSM about this?

A quick search brings up a Guardian article from March :

"So do bio labs exist inside Ukraine, and is the US supporting them?

Yes, and yes. Ukraine does operate biological laboratories that receive US funding. The US undersecretary of state Victoria Nuland affirmed those facts in a Senate foreign relations committee hearing this week, in which the Republican senator Marco Rubio asked directly if Ukraine had biological weapons.

Nuland did not answer the question head on. “Ukraine has biological research facilities,” she said, adding that there was concern that Russian forces were trying to gain control of the labs. “We are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces.”"

FULL INTERVIEW: The Ukraine War didn’t start in February but eight years before. Didn’t you notice?

"8 Years Before" Donbass Documentary

Premiered Oct 22, 2022

8 Years Before is an independently-funded documentary film directed by international journalist Donald Courter and produced collaboratively with international heavyweight fighting champion Jeff Monson.

The film portrays in stark detail the long saga of suffering that the Donbass people endured at the hands of the Ukrainian military, following the 2014 Euromaidan Coup d'etat. Through primary source accounts and interviews with ordinary citizens of Donbass, human stories with a perspective never before seen in the mainstream media are brought to light. This perspective frames the current conflict in Ukraine as a continuation of the Second World War - or as the Donbass people call it, "The Great Patriotic War".

They identify with their soviet past and the legacy of their grandfathers and grandmothers who fought in the Red Army to defend their socialist system, their country, and their very right to exist. They also identify with their predecessors' struggle against the scourge of fascism that came to their lands bent on exterminating everything in its path - an enemy they feel was never entirely defeated. Instead, it has resurfaced in modern Ukraine.

Interviews with officials of the Donetsk & Lugansk People's Republics are also featured, providing viewers with an understanding of how these young government and civil administrations attempted to achieve peace for their people - amid constant bombings, an information blockade, and a life & death struggle for self-determination.

The documentary is available both in English and Russian.

Donetsk city center hit by Ukrainian shelling

Ukraine shells Donetsk with US-made HIMARS – mayor

The attack targeted residential areas of the city, leaving several houses heavily damaged or destroyed

The Ukrainian military shelled residential areas of Donetsk late on Saturday, heavily damaging or completely destroying multiple houses. According to preliminary information, Kiev’s forces used various rocket artillery in the attack, including US-supplied HIMARS systems, the city’s mayor Alexey Kulemzin said.

Footage from the scene shows several houses destroyed during the late-evening attack. So far, no information on potential casualties among civilians has emerged.

Apart from a M142 HIMARS launcher, which fired at least six projectiles at the city, the Ukrainian military used a Soviet-made BM-21 Grad launcher, with some 20 rockets hitting in the city’s north, Kulemzin said on social media.

The city of Donetsk has been subjected to artillery and missile attacks by the forces of Kiev on an almost daily basis amid the ongoing conflict. While rarely commenting on such activities, Kiev blamed Russian forces, which are in control of the city, for having shelled it themselves.

Ukraine bombed dam with American missiles – Kherson officials

Six rockets from US-supplied systems were fired at the key infrastructure, with one making it through, emergencies services report

The Ukrainian military fired US-made HIMARS missiles at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam in Kherson Region on Sunday, damaging one of the floodgates, emergency services have told RIA Novosti.

Six projectiles targeted the structure at around 10am local time. Five were intercepted by Russian air defenses, but one made it through, a representative said.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine aren’t giving up on their attempts to destroy the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and create the circumstances for a humanitarian disaster,”  the statement explained.

The local authorities later clarified that the missile had failed to cause critical damage.

In recent weeks, Moscow has been blaming Kiev for attempting numerous attacks on the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam, which stands on the Dnieper River, upstream from the city of Kherson.

The Russian authorities began relocating civilians from the city and areas on the right bank of the Dnieper last month. The caretaker governor of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo, explained that there was “an immediate danger of flooding in the territories due to the planned destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam”  by Ukrainian forces.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said “those living in Kherson must be evacuated from the most dangerous zone of action. The civilian population must not suffer from shelling, any kind of offensive and counter-offensive, and other activities related to military operations.”

However, Ukraine has claimed that Russia had been planning to blow up the dam itself in a false-flag operation aimed at framing Kiev for the flooding. Those claims have been repeatedly denied by Moscow.

Kherson Region was officially declared part of Russia in early October, together with Zaporozhye Region and the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, after people in those territories overwhelmingly supported the move in referendums.

In recent weeks, the Ukrainian military has repeatedly tried to advance on Kherson, but all of those attacks have been repelled.

On Sunday, Kirill Stremousov, the deputy head of the regional administration, said Kiev had been “deploying more and more APCs and tanks” near Kherson in what could be preparation for another offensive.

The Zaporozhye nuclear plant in Energodar is the largest in Europe. Since March 2022 it has been under Russian control and Zaporozhye Region recently voted in a referendum to join Russia. In the meantime, Kiev continues to attack the plant, putting Europe at risk of a disaster six times bigger than the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Despite IAEA warnings and the referendum, Kiev continues to use the Zaporozhye plant as a blackmail tool. The documentary shows the timeline of the attacks and focuses on potential risks of Ukrainian provocations.
