SimonTV
I am questioning whether that is an EV fire as it seems too big. Never seen anything like it before.

At a couple of points in that video you can see 'jets' of fire shooting out - fuel or maybe hydrogen? I'm not completely familiar but I don't believe an EV battery would explode and burn like this. I'm thinking that this is an electric vehicle or van that was carrying gas bottles, the flare jets are similar to what has been observed before with lithium battery, but the explosions are more likely gas bottles that were in transit, not much left of the vehicle to identify. DaleP
tbh, I don't know ins and out of lithium battery but it includes Cobalt apparently. So we are carrying mobiles, tablets, laptop and it's radiating us. I thought it was the signal but it's actually the battery! Then imagine electric cars burning....that's some release of radiation there. DaleP
Hybrid cars have 11lb, Tesla's battery contains 33lb of Cobalt. One hybrid will kill 5m people.
oz93666
All the current problems with fires are irrelevant because these are caused by lithium batteries , which also do use a lot of rare elements like cobalt and lithium.... But these lithium batteries have been superceeded by Sodium batteries which have none of the fire problems and use sodium a very abundant metal... These sodium batteries were on the drawing boards decades ago but supressed so people paid excess for inferior and troublesome lithium batteries .... I'm surprised Sodium batteries are getting out now! There is economic competion between variouse power bases (China and the West ) , and at some point the greed to make money overcomes the overall global plan to impoverish the people. Bottom line this change to electric is all about reducing everyones standard of living ... oil should really be $5 dollars a barrel , it just comes out of the ground by itself in many places ,and oil and petrol and coal burning is important for feeding the biosphere with CO2 .
webtrekker
Watch: Moment E-Bike Explodes into Fireball in Block of Flats BY WILL JONES 27 MAY 2023 11:00 AM Footage released by the London Fire Brigade shows the moment yet another e-bike spontaneously catches fire and explodes. The Telegraph reports that the incident, which took place at a block of flats in Roehampton last week, “occurred after the bike’s lithium battery went into thermal runaway and erupted into flames”. The video shows the bike producing a highly flammable and toxic vapour cloud, before igniting in a fireball a second later. Avi Gooransingh, 29, the owner of the bike, said he was “shaken up” by the incident and will not have another e-bike in his home again. Spontaneous combustion is a known problem with electric vehicle batteries, which, while rare, is somewhat catastrophic when it happens.
Mr Crabtree
Who can afford to lash out on hundreds of miles of extension leads? and won't they all get tangled up on motorways? We'd all be better off ditching our cars and having a 24 / 7 staycation at home and watch old re-runs of Philip Schofield programmes! By the way, Holly is changing her name by Deed Poll, from Holly to 'Poison Ivy'!

Grumpy Owl
Fiat launches scrappage scheme to help EV buyers Quote Fiat has launched its own electric car grant to help buyers reduce the cost of switching to one of its EVs. The Government’s plug-in car grant ended nearly 12 months ago, with that scheme previously offering up to £1,500 off the price of a new electric vehicle. However, Fiat has doubled this amount with £3,000 available to buyers of its 500e or 500e Convertible models. Called the Fiat E-Grant, it’s a scheme which will allow Fiat’s electric models to undercut many of their rivals on price, with the 500’s after-grant price of £25,195 meaning that it’ll prove to be much cheaper than many other similarly-sized electric vehicles on sale. from: https://www.expressandstar.com/news/motors/2023/06/02/fiat-launches-scrappage-scheme-to-help-ev-buyers/ Even with this grant, £25k for a little 'dinky' car? You can pick up a decent second-hand 6 year old Fiat 500 for around £4k: https://www.tradecentreuk.com/cars/fiat/500/10375 1
