eddy64
well the government has been spooking the herd, shouting there's no problem whilst simultaneously shooting their metaphorical guns in the air. they could easily have d noticed it if they wanted.
Grumpy Owl
It's "toilet rolls" all over again. There is no shortage of fuel. But there is a shortage of delivery drivers to deliver this fuel to filling stations, that much is true. So a number of filling stations have had to close, as there is not much they can do otherwise if they have no fuel to sell. They will reopen again once they get a delivery. Now in the meantime, the public have once again been tricked into believing there is a 'shortage' when there clearly isn't. What's the best way to create an actual shortage? That's right, by having loads of motorists drive around trying to find a filling station that's still open, and then filling their tanks to the brim. What then happens? Well naturally those filling stations will run out of fuel, and they may not know when their next delivery is due. I bet most people don't normally fill their tanks right up, but just buy what they can afford at the time. I don't drive myself, nor have I ever owned a vehicle, so I wonder if there has also been some increase in the price of fuel recently. Which of course people won't pay any attention to, "I need to fill up my tank!" So yeah, great work media, how to manufacture a fuel crisis that wouldn't ordinarily have happened.

Yes totally agree with you. I had tto get fuel today and it was priced between 144 to 155 a litre. Its getting expensive. Normally i dont fill up as its costly, but i did today just in case,as i have to get to work next week.

And he told me today that the uk cant support anymore electric cars as there isnt enough power stations to provide power. The electric supply are already on the bones of there ass. So everyone owning electric cars wouldn't be possible at the current level of supply as today. So something will have to give.

Anti Facts Sir
My old man had half a tank, so went to top up...told me he put just under 50 quid's worth in! I said, how the fuck was their room for that much?! News to me - so the price must have been slyly increased over the last 24-48 hours....it doesn't add up otherwise. So everyone owning electric cars wouldn't be possible at the current level of supply as today. So something will have to give. I had 10 years working in the energy industry, this is what I also understood to be the case. And before electric car owners get too smug today they should also ponder on how the juice for their ride gets generated. 40% of their electricity comes from gas powered stations in the UK, much more in winter. Ooh, stratospheric price movements in the wholesale gas markets, enjoy the cost of charging going through the roof. Suckers. Also I suggest looking at the April 2021 rollout of the IR35 changes in the UK. Consider it's impact on the freelance haulage contractors who played a crucial part in plugging the gaps in HGV shortages for many years. Now the powers that be destroyed the value in doing that pretty horrible, shitty job and like many other freelancers in many other sectors it's just not worth it today. Let's not forget the march of progress towards mega consolidation of all supply chain logistics from small, widely dispersed warehousing, depots etc into a tiny handful of megaliths, guaranteeing that even the smallest blip would ricochet into major crises on a regular basis because there is no redundancy.

Classic problem-reaction-solution. The attack on good ol' petrol vehicles has been building up for quite some time now. Demonising it for "damaging the environment", the introduction of E10 petrol which damages older vehicles, and many relatively new ones as well. Now manufactured fuel shortages which will introduce small petrol limits as the norm, making it a nuisance and seriously restricting the freedom for petrol and diesel drivers. The clowns that are the normies can never see the forest for the trees.
Mr H
IF people continue to behave like this during the winter it could get interesting - considering there are predicted shortages in almost everything......... When people don't have energy, fuel and food, they tend to get angry. Only thing left to make them more angry is for them to lose their income streams.....more shut downs anyone? Would be the nail in the coffin!

Bast
There are two petrol stations in my area and they have now sold out. Delivery time for re-stock not known but they are still queuing and you cannot get into the supermarket car park at all to do a shop! The next nearest garage is 6 miles away. Pictures on local news sites of people filling up multiple jerry cans in the boot of their cars. How predictable. Too slow to get a grip on these "toilet roll panic buyers". They should have programmed the pumps to deliver £30 of fuel max and switched pumps off if they spotted any car with boot doors open and obvious signs of jerry can filling. All totally driven by the tossers in the media who stoked it up more than what was fact. This did not even need reporting originally because it only affected a handful of BP garages. It's never ever been uncommon to drive past a garage with cones out in the entrance and a sign saying "Waiting for delivery"...and you just go back later or go elsewhere.

Fluke
Just another example of how easily manipulated people are and how easily panicked they are. Still I thought we'd have food shortages. There isn't any food shortage either. There is a shortage of HGV drivers to make deliveries. As I pointed out in one of the Food threads here, its all being contrived and 'politicised' for an ulterior purpose. And today we have this from the BBC: Lorry driver shortage: Temporary visa scheme to run until Christmas Eve Quote A temporary visa scheme to make it easier for foreign lorry drivers to work in the UK is set to run for three months, ending on Christmas eve. It is understood about 5,000 visas may be issued, with more details about the scheme set to be announced on Sunday. A shortage of drivers has disrupted fuel deliveries, with some petrol stations closing, and queues forming. The government has said there is no fuel shortage at refineries, and urged people not to panic buy. Quote The Road Haulage Association estimates that the UK is short of about 100,000 HGV drivers - with existing shortages made worse by a number of factors, including the pandemic and Brexit. The foreign drivers eligible for visas will not be limited to the EU, but the expectation is most of the drivers will be from Europe. A raft of longer-term measures. including training up more drivers and addressing the backlog of driving tests, are also to be introduced by ministers. OK, so there is something like 1.6m unemployed people in the UK, and granted not all of them are going to be capable of driving HGVs. And yes, the Covid pandemic has reduced the opportunities for people to 'retrain' and learn to drive such vehicles. But still, it all boils down to this message, that we need to 'import' such workers, because we don't have enough of our own trained up to do these jobs. So yes, there will be those 'pro-EU' types, arguing for us to rejoin the bloc, for that reason. (Because this is all clearly the fault of Brexit in their eyes, nothing to do with a lack of forward thinking) On the other hand, I think about all these African lads that keep arriving on our shores by dinghy: Quote The foreign drivers eligible for visas will not be limited to the EU, but the expectation is most of the drivers will be from Europe. Perhaps the same applies to these Afghan refugees. "Can you drive a truck? Great, here's your visa!"
