I regularly visited Faslane naval base, and visited the brave ladies at the Faslane peace camp { in June 2022 they celebrated 40 years of protesting } These ladies went through some very harsh winters and have never given up, ever! I regularly delivered to G.C.H.Q. in Cheltenham, Fylingdales in Pickering in Yorkshire and many other military and government establishments! I had a very short temper back then, did my job, but, never took shit from anyone, and had a few set to's with staff and management, and when it came down to redundancies in 1992 they saw a chance to get rid of me and took it! They gave me 4 weeks notice, but in the middle of the first week they asked me to empty my locker and go, and they paid the month's money into my account and I was back home by lunchtime! It turns out that one of the other drivers thought that if I was gone quickly, they might have enough work with one less driver and not have to be made redundant themselves! So he told the management that I was going to cause a lot of shit on my last day, and they took it onboard and let me go early! I was angry for quite a while afterwards because I truly loved the job, never took time off, etc, etc, but looking back now it is what it is and maybe it was for the best in the long run, and prompted a move down here to Brighton! 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
