Surely the Japanese don't still buy into the 19th century elegant Paris meme? That should be reported for false advertising.

that diagram is entirely retarded

that implies that your emotions have no validity

your emotions can be your unconscious trying to communicate with you

your 'worry' might just be the fire you need lit under your ass to make you engage with right action

of course you could go the other way and deny it and ask a doctor to try and medicalise your emotions so that you can refuse to face your own refusal to take responsibility for the world

the problem with that approach are twofold. Firstly you won't ever try and fix the problem that caused the anxiety in the first place and secondly the danger with serotonin reuptake inhibitors is that they simply dam up all that emotion and if the dam breaks the person can be flooded with emotion they can't handle which is why suicidal impulses is one of the listed possible side effects

Legislation to ban discrimination based on natural and protective hairstyles — such as Afros, cornrows or tightly coiled twists — in workplaces, school districts and school-related organizations in Massachusetts was signed into law Tuesday by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker.

When the sh!t you tied on your head is so wack it needs a law.

U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley co-sponsored the House bill. The Massachusetts Democrat praised state lawmakers for adopting the law.

“For far too long, Black folks have been punished for the hair that grows on our heads and the way we move through and show up in this world,” Pressley said in a written statement.

Nope, that ain't a Photoshop job, that's actually U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley. You know she chooses to go around bald, rather than wear a wig, just for the attention it brings her. And, like the Emperor's new clothes, no one is going to tell her she looks like Ving Rhames in drag.

And what the feck does, "...and the way we move through and show up in this world." mean?

Back to you, Chet...

The West needs to grow up

"In the 50 years I have spent on earth, most of it in post-imperial Britain, that loss of faith has manifested everywhere. If you want to “get on” in Britain — which means to win the approval of the upper-middle class elite which runs the show — it has long been an unspoken rule that you cannot be seen to commit yourself to any of the pillars of the old orthodoxy which two World Wars fatally wounded and the Sixties counterculture decisively finished off."

To dislike certain ethnicities is racist; to see Jews as equal is antisemitic
https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/to-dislike-certain-ethnicities-is-racist-to-see-jews-as-equal-is-antisemitic/

It's just hard work, no nepotism or double standards or anything! 😉

Quote from that article:

"Yet, Jews are the only Nation not just based on practice, location, or beliefs. Jews are the only People based on an assignment. And their Divinely ordained task is to be exemplary to all of humanity. To be G^d’s ambassadors on earth, fighting for the good of everyone.

That means that when one says that Jews are just like everyone else, you’re a bigot. You don’t need to look down on Jews to be Antisemitic."

But if Judaism isn't only based on beliefs etc, what is the statement that they have a divinely ordained task if it isn't a belief? He seems to be taking it as an objective fact rather than a relativistic religious belief (and we all have our beliefs).

Yeah, humanity never asked for their tikkum olam. Who gets to define what repairing or improving the world means anyway? The same people that want to change it. lol

Another quote from the article:

" Judaism laid much of the foundation of all Monotheism (One G^d), Science (One Universe), and Democracy (Equality) in the world. That’s why hatred of Jews is the ultimate ungratefulness, throwing mud on Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Einstein, and Herzl. And therefore, the Holocaust doesn’t compare to any other genocide, Armenian included—though they are all horrific."

So monotheism appears to be the foundation stone of the idea of their uniqueness, to this author. I've read a little history of the Jews' progression from polytheistic Canaanite tribe to monotheists with a separate identity, and this wiki article on Monotheism gives a summary:

" Judaism is traditionally considered one of the oldest monotheistic religions in the world, although in the 8th century BCE the Israelites were polytheistic, with their worship including the gods El, Baal, Asherah, and Astarte. Yahweh was originally the national god of the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah.  During the 8th century BCE, the worship of Yahweh in Israel was in competition with many other cults, described by the Yahwist faction collectively as Baals. The oldest books of the Hebrew Bible reflect this competition, as in the books of Hosea and Nahum, whose authors lament the "apostasy" of the people of Israel, threatening them with the wrath of God if they do not give up their polytheistic cults.

As time progressed, the henotheistic cult of Yahweh grew increasingly militant in its opposition to the worship of other gods. Later, the reforms of King Josiah imposed a form of strict monolatrism. After the fall of Judah and the beginning of the Babylonian captivity, a small circle of priests and scribes gathered around the exiled royal court, where they first developed the concept of Yahweh as the sole God of the world.

Second Temple Judaism and later Rabbinic Judaism became strictly monotheistic. The Babylonian Talmud references other, "foreign gods" as non-existent entities to whom humans mistakenly ascribe reality and power."

This gives me the distinct impression that monotheism wasn't a grassroots movement of the ordinary people but imposed by the rulers on the people. However I'm sure there's a lot more detail to this so I'll leave it there.

My own view is that monotheism doesn't  come naturally to many of us and  needs authority structures like temples and churches to prop it up. In which case, the belief in uniqueness would be a creation of their society's PTB in those historical times,  rather than coming from the ordinary people.
