Guest
Just looking for someone to play chess with? I have not played for over 15 years (had a mate who I played with but he died back then and other people didn't play and now people don't seem to play anymore) but I would like to play. Would you fancy a game of chess? We could do it on an online site or just do it the old way and send moves to each other? Just a thought
webtrekker
Hi ink. I play occasional games of chess against the computer, or sometimes my grandaughter. I'm probably rubbish at it, but I know the rules at least and am prepared to be beaten hands-down every game. I'm not a sore loser! So, if you'd like to give it a whirl just let me know. PS. My favourite board game on the computer is Backgammon. I also like Othello (Reversi) and Virtual Pool. I'm not really into shoot-em-ups or role-playing games though. I'm not a sore loser! I am well out of practice but would like a game and I do not mind learning from losing :) I used to play quite a bit with my dead mate and we would go 50/50 on games .... in the local pub as we enjoyed a pint together. 24 minutes ago, webtrekker said: My favourite board game on the computer is Backgammon Always liked backgammon .... but, again, have not played for near 30 years!! I learn't with my dad (who learn't playing for money) and backgammon is a 'nice' game but really is nothing but a game without the doubling dice per point. You must play for something of value and you need to look the opponent in the eye as you double the bet. .... bit like poker mixed with chess? I posted this thread not knowing that the Mega thread had been locked. Which I consider a daft action. To close it for 10-15 minutes, for tempers to cool down is one thing but to close it, for now 22 hours, is just stupid! It is, maybe, the biggest covid thread on the internet and to lock it for this length of time shows a lack of thought .... and shows a lack of moderation skill. Mods should "moderate" .... remove the offending posts and create private conversation with those who's posts were removed .... while allowing the thread conversation to continue. I have issues with the 'old forum' being removed from view and Gareth knows that I do .... so I think I shall leave this forum .... and if I wish to post my thoughts or research then I shall do it elsewhere. Thus .... I will not be able to interact with chess moves .... thanks for your reply anyway :)

Really stupid decision in my opinion and doing nothing but creating its own 'conspiracy.' Anyhow, the offer stands for a few games should conditions improve here and you find yourself able to return. Best of luck to you and yours.

I find it a measured, well moderated forum and Maxs' videos are always interesting and thought provoking.
Anti Facts Sir
Really sorry to see you go, @ink - but I totally understand and respect your decision. I have done the same on several occasions. You have to do what your conscience tells you is best.
Seeker
I play on chess.com often if anyone ever fancied a game or two @ink @webtrekker @Anti Facts Sir Or anyone else :) Edited August 9, 2021 by Seeker
Truthspoon
I used to be a member of Chess.com then they replaced the perfectly leveled computer opponent system with crap from that daft fake chess film Queen's Gambit..... I've nothing against women achieving excellence in chess....but when for the sake of fake equality you have to make it up and pretend.... I just walk away. I think my level is around 1300 points (strong beginner). I'll give you a game some time. Edited August 9, 2021 by Truthspoon
EnigmaticWorld
I'm garbage at chess. I feel bad about it too as my Father often tried to teach me how to play as a kid. I should start reading up on it to take my mind off things. And yes, the Queen's Gambit was a joke.

Well I'd be happy to give someone a game....... maybe a kind of tuition match... not that I'm particularly good, but you learn to spot the common opportunities like forking (I said forking....not.......shagging) and that's what a lot of chess is about besides trying to read moves three or four or more steps ahead, it's looking for classic familiar plays and setups. But I'm not that good. But not even good. I'll give someone a few games for fun anytime.

I find it pretty rewarding to teach myself new skills though. I'm watching a beginners guide at the moment. I will hit this thread up if I fancy it. lol

I won but it was a close and exciting match because she was just naturally really intelligent and applied herself to the game....

I was always a draughts noob. lmao On a serious note, I do actually enjoy strategic games. Strategy games on PC are often some of my favourites, it's just learning how to play and memorizing what I learned often feels like a chore. I guess that's why it's better to learn things when you're young, as your brain soaks the information up like a sponge better. I just need to learn against an AI opponent for a bit to see if I actually enjoy chess.
ChristopherB
This is something I can do!! I am a Candidate Master at chess (lowest level of master but still decent). I have played in the British Championships before and even been Surrey Champion! During the last year and a half, I have conducted individual coaching and am running a junior chess club online and fortunately able to make a living doing this (previously I was teaching in schools, before all this crap happened). Now, I would like to offer anyone on here some free games on either the lichessdotorg or chessdotcom websites (just quote 'DavidIcke forum'). No charge at all. My handles are 'UniofNorthLondon', and 'PlymouthArgyle' respectively. So, if anyone wants a game, just go online, message me, quoting 'David Icke', and if I am free, I will gladly have a game with you! All the best, Chris
