Dead Internet Theory: Most of the Internet is Fake

The Dead Internet Theory is a loose term used to describe a range of changes and oddities in the structure and content of the internet, which have become increasingly prevalent in the last decade.

>A massive increase in bots, including the idea that their presence and activity may now be far greater than that of actual people, or at least to a much greater extent than people have been led to believe.

>The homogenization and centralization of online content.

>The death of a once-rich landscape of smaller communities dedicated to a vast array of subjects, hobbies, niches - all now replaced primarily by disorganized, impermanent, and easily controlled discussion on platforms such as Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

>The idea that AI, considerably more advanced at present than we have been led to believe, is being utilized online for subversive or malevolent purposes, including the creation of increasingly bland and mindless media of the modern world.

It's worth noting for those of you who are unaware, the aforementioned bots have a strong presence on 4chan. They, as well as apparent shills, have appeared in most or all /dit/ threads to date. The best thing you can do is not engage with any derailment or demoralization. Ignore them and most of their "power" over the discourse is negated. If you notice someone doing these things, call attention to it for everyone (especially lurkers) to see, but don't engage them.

Educate yourself, and stay aware. Whoever they may be, and whatever their ultimate goals, there are parties seeking to influence and control what you think and the way you interact with others. They are present all across the internet, and 4chan - and /x/ - are among the places they are at work.

It is most important in these threads to ignore all shills. Do not respond to them, do not even talk about them, just ignore them.

I haven't watched the video, but I can believe this theory is true.

 

While there are a great number of 'real' websites out there on the internet, run and maintained by real people, I do believe there are an increasing number of websites that are either created by sophisticated 'bots', or some kind of AI.

 

Fake websites, with fake blog articles, the only purpose of which is for 'SEO' reasons, in order to try and manipulate search engine results.

 

And then of course all the social media platforms, and discussion forums, how many of their members are actually 'real people', or just sophisticated 'script-bots'?

The funny thing is that prior to the recent West Midlands Mayor election, there was some post from Andy Street on Facebook, and I noticed a few 'identikit' comments being left on it by several people. So I know for myself that this does happen!

 

Paid shills, or sophisticated AI script-bots, just how many 'real' people are there out on social media platforms?

Yes the AI is studying humanity through the internet

 

It is reading our written word on twitter, it is recording our voices in youtube clips for voice recognition and it is mapping our faces when people post photos on facebook and instagram etc

 

These all create data points that are being studied and fed into the AI

It's not that real people don't use the internet, it's that a vast majority of what you see is automated nonsense to manipulate your perception, on platforms that are already designed in a manner where your perception can be being manipulated by an algorithm without the presence of fake content. it's turtles all the way down.

There's a fine line between the reality of the situation and borderline schizophrenic solipsism but it's still pretty disconcerning when you assume that likes, retweets, and upvotes are from real people when in actuality there's no reason to believe that they are, especially when the APIs to verify those things by third parties got removed years ago when this shit started to get out of hand. the people who run these platforms know what's going on, they probably had a hand in it to maintain the illusion that more people use their platforms than they actually do. how many people do you know on twitter still? lol

You can just handwave it away because it's uncomfortable but any examination of mainstream communication platforms leads you to the conclusion that it's been increasingly filled with bots and automated low quality boomer-bait and retarded reddit style emotional manipulation. now, it's almost impossible to use because deep learning algorithms have gotten very sophisticated.
