Fifth element
Coldest december since 2010 so far first 17 days very cold.. December 2010 was the coldest since 1890 and the second coldest december on record.. Record cold is still possible if we have the high pressure sytems centered either over scandinavia or greenland as whats happened last fortnight.. Looks like warming up sunday monday,I was hoping the cold would persist.. May come back to being more average maybe below.. But it has been a record warm year until this month never known trees kept leaves on so late before until severe frosts hit them hard.. Yes, Sunday and Monday should be relatively mild, then heading into Christmas the temps drop down to around average for the time of year. "I'm dreaming of a Wet Christmas..." Grumpy Owl
More sensationalist bullshit from the Daily Mail: After the floods, here comes the 'Nightmare from the North'... A six-day shiver that will bring snow to the south and temperatures as low as -15C in some areas Quote Nights as low as -15C will make some areas of Britain even colder than Antarctic research bases. Daytime highs will hit just 1C in the North. Quote England can expect -8C nights, with the -15C forecast in the Scottish Highlands from tomorrow night colder than the Antarctic’s Belgrano II research base. At 800 miles from the Pole, it is the closest coastal station to the globe’s southernmost point and its 19 scientists will see -12C lows. From: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11636499/A-six-day-shiver-bring-snow-south-temperatures-low-15C-areas.html While it is the middle of winter up here in the UK, it is of course also the height of summer on Antarctica. This particular research base is located near the coast, where it is typically much warmer. Further inland, it might currently be 'sunny' but temperatures are still around -30C, so hardly a 'fair comparison', just like the story I linked earlier in this thread which claimed Britain was 'hotter than the Sahara', which was only borderline true. And while both the Sahara Desert and the continent of Antarctica are massive areas of land compared to the size of the UK, despite the small size of our islands, the weather varies a great deal here. If you want to know what the weather is going to be like where you are, then look at a weather forecast website for your local area. Don't go by what the national media report, and even your 'local' news websites just regurgitate the same rubbish.

Fifth element
Biggest snow since The beast from the east in 2018.. March is when the snow seems to come nothing much all winter except for those very cold nights in december and another cold spell in january with a covering on 1inch of snow.. A foot of snow hit this past week.. The Met Office added that it would be an "exceptionally cold night" on Friday, with a clear and frosty start to Saturday for most. In England, from Stoke-on-Trent to County Durham, the forecaster said significant disruption to transport, power lines and phone network coverage was likely. In Northern Ireland people were warned of "atrocious driving conditions" because of the wind and snow followed by icy conditions on Friday. In north Wales persistent snow and freezing rain could be hazardous to infrastructure and travel. Wednesday night was the coldest of the year so far, with temperatures plummeting to -16C in Altnaharra, Scotland. The Peak District and Pennines have the potential for as much as 40cm of snow into Friday morning, with remote communities at risk of being cut off. The Met Office has issued three amber warnings for northern England, the Midlands, north Wales and Northern Ireland, where "significant disruption" to transport and power supplies is expected. An amber warning means there is a likelihood that severe weather will disrupt people's plans, with a possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, and power cuts. It also brings a potential risk to life and property. Grumpy Owl
From another thread here, we now have "soft heatwave" to add to the list of made-up weather exaggerations: Well "late April" is next week, and that is the week I am going away on holiday to the coast, so admittedly some 'warm weather' would be appreciated, as the current 10-day forecast doesn't look that promising. But this is what we have to look forward to now: any "warm sunny" day is now a "heatwave" according to the media and their 'experts' at these forecasting agencies, who can't correctly forecast next week's weather, let alone three or four months ahead. Grumpy Owl
I can't take much more of this click-bait drivel... UK set for 35C heatwave thanks to African plume as exact date predicted Quote An African plume could spark a sweltering 35C UK heatwave - but you'll have to wait: because forecasters don't expect it til July. Weather forecasters have spoken out over the weather as the temperatures continue to languish in the teens. Recent days have seen grey skies develop across swathes of the country, with heavy rainfall, hail and even thunder and lightning in areas. But meteorologists are promising things will improve as we head deeper into summer. An African plume is expected to bring huge heatwave with scorching 35C temperatures. African plumes are set to drag temperatures into the 30s later this summer according to forecasters. James Madden, from ExactaWeather, said: "We could still see maximum temperatures reaching in the mid to high 20s quite widely at the peak of this." Mr Madden says "confidence has only increased" over heatwaves, adding: "A number of African plumes are also likely from later in August and into September, and very early indications and some strong indicators are for a warm to hot September this year. "The peak of these heat surges in June and July could see maximum temperatures ranging in the low to mid 30s, and the late summer/August heatwave could sign off summer 2023 with temperatures ranging a notch or two higher than this.” from: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/black-country/uk-set-35c-heatwave-thanks-26906075 Who would have thought it, it's going to be hot in June/July/August? It's also amazing how these forecasters are able to predict such 'African plumes' and 'heatwaves' so far in advance, yet are seemingly unable to accurately predict the weather for next week? Oh but predictably, 'hot summers' are because of 'climate change': Quote At the time, Dr Mark McCarthy, the head of the Met Office’s National Climate Information Centre, said: “2022 is going to be the warmest year on record for the UK. While many will remember the summer’s extreme heat, what has been noteworthy this year has been the relatively consistent heat through the year, with every month except December being warmer than average. “The warm year is in line with the genuine impacts we expect as a result of human-induced climate change. Although it doesn’t mean every year will be the warmest on record, climate change continues to increase the chances of increasingly warm years over the coming decades.” I would argue that 2023 so far has been relatively cooler "than usual". Laughably, this is another Reach Plc clickbait article with "exact date" wording in the headline, yet the article fails to provide any such 'exact date'. My prediction: it will be a relatively mild and wet summer, with the occasional periods of warm, sunny weather being billed as 'heatwaves'.

Grumpy Owl
Hot weather is "dangerous" apparently. How hot it's going to be in each part of West Midlands this weekend according to Met Office - full list Quote The sun is set to shine this weekend as parts of the West Midlands are set to reach 22 degrees. The hot weather comes with a warning that high pollen is expected in the area. Hay fever sufferers have been advised to prepare for this ahead of time. The Met Office has predicted that Saturday, June 3, will be the hotter day this weekend. Worcestershire is expected to reach 22 degrees while Birmingham City Centre is not far behind at 21 degrees. A spokesperson for the Met Office has warned that hot weather can be dangerous. from: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/black-country/how-hot-its-going-each-27044611 I don't really consider this "hot weather" at all, it's pleasantly warm outside, but still quite comfortable. Grumpy Grapes
The words "exact date" have occurred quite a few times this year in dramatic predictions. It could be just click bait, but it could also be a sign of things to come, if "Back to the Future" (Part 2) is anything to go by, when the weather forecasters can precisely predict weather changes to the nearest minute. Weather engineering will be openly acknowledged.

Weather engineering will be openly acknowledged. No sorry, I think you'll find 'exact date' is just used for click-bait purposes. You'll see this throughout any Reach owned website, like: Met Office says UK set for hottest day of year - and announces exact date warm weather ends Quote The UK is set to bask in temperatures reaching over 20C this week - ahead of the hottest day of the year. The UK could record its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures expected to hist as high as 26C. Highs of 24C were recorded this weekend, with the hot and dry weather likely to remain for "at least another week", according to forecasters. Met Office meteorologist Rachel Ayers said: “People can expect 24C or 25C in the warmer spots and there could even be a high of 26C in sheltered areas in the west.” She said there was a low chance of 26C being recorded, adding: “We’d be looking at that somewhere in the west, probably similar kinds of areas, parts of Wales, maybe south-west England.” In Birmingham, the mercury is anticipated to hit as high as 21C on Monday June 5 and Tuesday June 6. from: https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/black-country/met-office-says-uk-set-27055335 The headline bears little resemblance to the content of the article, ie "what the Met Office actually said". And as ever, what is also missing from the content is the "exact date" promised. Quote Highs of 22C and 23C are expected on Saturday June 10 and Sunday June 11 in Birmingham and the West Midlands, the Met Office has also added. In its medium to long-range forecast, the Met Office says: "Temperatures generally warm away from the east coast, locally very warm." But looking from June 9 to June 18, meteorologists warn: "Later in the period uncertainty increases, however there is a risk of showers or thunderstorms in southern areas of the UK, while northern areas are more likely to hold onto drier conditions." The warm weather is expected to continue until into the autumn.

Yes of course it is, now that the internet is overcrowded with content its a competition to get your attention, your eyeballs on their screen instead of someone else's. They can't afford expensive good quality content when they're competing with social media. And we're not the real customers, the advertisers are because they're paying for it all, it's not a free lunch. As the saying goes, when the product is free, you're the product.
