I understand that it is an apparently harmless chimpanzee adenovirus ChAdOx1 that has been genetically modified so that it cannot grow and replicate itself within human cells. The adenovirus is used as the vector (delivery system) to deliver the piece of genetic code for the SARS-CoV-2 antigen into the cells supposedly without causing disease.
