Are you sure that there are plans to remove misconduct in public office as a (common law) criminal offence which dates back to the 13th century? The Law Society is a professional association for solicitors and would not have the power to do this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_Society_of_England_and_Wales).
