The unfair bargaining attempt while not seen as extortion to some, didn't really make sense to those familiar with how Facebook operates. After Facebook's long strategy of investing in Australian journalism and media, they were then left with no choice but to dismantle everything after no serious attempt was made to negotiate properly with the social media platform. Facebook had to politely say "no thanks" to the strange new unworkable contracts, putting out a clear statement about why they had to do this. figurehead government media spin artists then lashed out in response to the move, calling Facebook "aggressive" and that they were "assaulted" by not accepting the contract, even though Facebook complied with Australian law, meaning Australian News can no longer be on facebook.
