Keeping travelling expenses down?

Yes, the cost of a rail ticket from outer London to the centre was massive c. 2016.  Mostly though because by selling a tiny studio flat back in 2014 we were then able to buy a reasonable 3 bed house with a fair bit of 'fun money 'left over.  No more mortgage, our earnings are finally our own!  24 year mortgage paid up!   Salaries here in the East Midlands are lower (although not that much for admin and retail jobs I'd say between about half and 2/3 London salaries for the jobs we had. ) Property is about 3 x as expensive it is here say a house that costs £400,000 in North or South London can be bought in Nottingham for say £130,000 ish; oh and the air quality far less traffic and fumes, that is miles better.  I loved London as a teen, but now, I love quiet nights, nature all around me and peace!  Best 'move' we ever made.  Forest nearby - and horses!

Thanks...I can't take the credit for Hand-Cock...saw it somewhere else - here, or maybe social media - and it stuck in the memory!

Yep I bet it did!  Whitty looks like he's had bad botox!

the fake news media article i saw they were just stuffing tests through letter boxes.

Yes,  I'd imagine most of these will end up being binned?  Most people I know, whatever they think about the reality of c19 or the solutions, say they won't get a test because odds are they are already infected (even if they have no symptoms -= it's been a year) and they do not want to have to sit at home off work for 10 days.   So - what's the point of all this, immunity is what matters, antibody tests, blood tests but they are not apparently required?  It's a mystery to me.

Referring to the video posted on this forum today regarding the above subject.  In some areas here in the UK now, police are going 'door to door' offering (?) covid tests to householders in lieu of the dangers of a new 'variant' of coronavirus with the aim of locating those that have this and aiming to prevent its spread.  At the moment this appears to be voluntary (however how many people would ever refuse the police anything, decent, frightened, honest people?, Not many I'll bet!). If you consent and  if you test positive (for anything and everything!) then what are your rights to AVOID the mobile track and trace option?  None I'd imagine if you ADMIT to even owning a smart phone.  I have no interest in jumping out of my skin every time an I phone pings, in fact, the mobile (old style) remains in the kitchen drawer (I only use these to hire cars anyway) and I go OUT AND ABOUT WHEN AND WHEREVER I PLEASE!  Most people though not only won't go anywhere without an I phone, they would be far too intimidated to either not use the track and trace system or refuse the police (only doing their job of course) ANYTHING.  Humm....what next, ID 2020, I wouldn't be surprised.  Yep, paranoid, I know....

Hong Kong Cops Threaten To “Kick Door Down” For Anybody Who Dosn’t Open For COVID Test

They always copy China. So you can guess what's coming.

Horrible, but China (I've been there so I know) is a nation that values profits over all else.  The populace are workers that's all, their rights mean nothing, their opinions even less.  Here in the UK I'm not so sure the kicking down doors without a warrant would be a great political move, either by the right or left, in fact it would drive people into non-cooperation in their millions.   This is of little use to the powers that be.  More likely will be this approach.  In areas where there is high take up of vaccines, lockdowns will be eased as suggested on the Beeb this evening.  Then there will be vaccine passports (no pass, no travel anywhere on public transport).  Then there would be no entry to social events, pubs, restaurants etc.  Now to me to not take the mRNA type ever is key, the others, the viral vectors, well I will see if by autumn those that have taken these are well, fit, immune and happy.  Even then though, I'll be very cautious indeed.  Most of us would test positive now as most humans have been exposed to c19 over the last year, so it is more or less pointless.  Immunity matters, if you have had it and recovered, you should be immune, that's how viruses work. I've had it twice, once in Jan 19, and again in Sept (milder), if I get it again (any variant assuming it is a natural virus not some nightmare from a lab) I should be fine/ shouldn't even need a vaccine.  When they knock, my hubby and I will politely refuse to take the test, door or no door.  If they force us I will sue for police brutality (I won't be alone I'm sure). Most police must be in shit street over this, caught between a rock (govt, law) and a hard place/ brutalizing the public, the good ones I mean.  As for the public - each to their own though, I can't t ell anyone to take a test or not, their choices, their lives.

This is assuming there is any such thing as an identifiable "CV19" virus. Which I doubt. I got knocked for six back in 2019, as did my family, with something different to the usual. In me, it manifested as horrendous gastric flu, the ferocity of which I'd never known. In other family members, it was a very bad flu-type syndrome that left them unable to leave their bed for 3-4 days. And this included someone who had never spent any time being ill or needed to take to their bed in her life.

It passed for all of us. Then not long after, I discovered that 5G had been switched on in our nearest town.

Did we all simultaenously have a violent reaction to the 5G going "live", or did we have CV19 that hadn't even been discovered in the wet fish markets of Wuhan. Hmmm.

I would have a present for them and yet they wouldn't have time to enjoy it...
