His character has some bond-like elements for example he is worldly, competent, self-confident and always had a witty quip but he's a new character. Nolan didn't write over an existing character he created a whole new one and he created a cool character. I still don't fully understand the whole inversion part of the film (think its one of those you have to watch again to full understand) but it was a good action film and didn't have any social engineering
