Grumpy Owl
"There's always another choice" Despite all the censorship, shadow-banning, account deletion etc that goes on on the 'big-tech giant' platforms, like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube et al, people still use them. And then complain when they get banned, deleted or censored! There are alternatives out there and what people need to start doing in even greater numbers is to abandon the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and start supporting the alternative platforms instead. So in this thread I'm going to compile a list of the alternative sites that I know of, if there are any I've overlooked then please feel free to reply. Also, lets have some discussion on the pros and cons of each, and if anyone has any concerns or issues with any of these sites. Any sites listed here should not be taken as any formal recommendation or endorsement. Duewy
How about real search engines? Not sure but I find differences between the big one and what I get from duck duck go, and dogpile. Are there any good open search engines that you recommend? GMX.com allows you to get email with little data input. Any others?
TFH
I find mail.com a pretty good replacement for Gmail, especially if used in an email client where I find it identical. I'm seeing brandnewtube censoring vids, and I don't like bitchute's GUI.. I do like the content still up on bannedvideo. I've replaced WhatsApp with MeWe for instant messaging although hardly anyone I know is prepared to download it to IM me.. they've retreated back to SMS. That's fine, it tells me my worth in their eyes so I can continue looking for new awake pals. I don't see the big players going anywhere given that the majority of people don't care about the big tech issues, but that doesn't mean a) WE have to suck on their tailpipes and b) the presence of alternatives keeps the very reasons for the alternatives part of the global discussion. Hundreds of millions of us using Gab & Parlour etc means that they can't keep us entirely silent. Edited March 9, 2021 by TFH

I think GMX is for 'google mail x', a European and Germany based subsidiary of Google Mail, both email contact form and customs are quite identical... if true it'd show me how America's imperialism dissimulates itself not to let appear that Europe became a US colony... Quote United Internet is the parent company of 3 major webmail providers: GMX Mail and Web.de, which are predominantly European providers, and Mail.com whose users are mainly from the US and the UK. It also owns 1&1 Ionos, a domain registrar and web hosting provider. I think it's called fake competition... Grumpy Owl
Just updated the OP with a couple of additions that I've come across recently. Flote is yet another social media platform OurTube is another video hosting and sharing platform. On closer inspection, this 'appears' to be some kind of clone of BrandNewTube, at least the software it uses appears to be the same/similar, just looking through the structure of the source code. SuperU is another video hosting and sharing platform. I don't know much else about it, other than it appears to be Canadian, and features a lot of content from Rebel News, who I think are controlled opposition, so I personally see this platform as a little suspicious. As I've said previously, please don't see any of these as 'recommendations' by me, but it would be interesting to know what others think of these sites. I trust it but haven't tried it much yet because coz I only recently found it (Aug 12th 2022 to be precise as NTS).... And as the link suggests to reach the page what you see is the word Disroot which refers to DISROOT.org, I would equally be happy to highlight that right now as *one to watch- for good hopefully* as I am taking a keen interest in this privacy led decentralized place (or movement even!).... and as I say the search engine I am new to that, sooo I am cautious-ish (just generally a good idea) yet on the face of it VERY pleased to have found each of these in what I believe so far are sharing healthy values & principles Quote Disroot is a platform providing online services based on principles of freedom, privacy, federation and decentralization. No tracking, no ads, no profiling, no data mining! ( I would add donations myself maybe if I had the money to spare myself... as this looks promising to ME... imho... Note by Tetra.) TetraG
On the other side of the spectrum, like corporation junk.... it maybe useful for people to know this https://www.onmail.com/ is a part of Edison Mail.... I don't want any part of a web mailing system provided by high end profiteering business heads.
