Left the UK for Tanzania

I'm finishing a 3 week nanny job tomorrow that was with a UK family over here on holiday. That's the only work I found during the 3 months I've been here so it's been very tough. I was working as a nanny and tutor in the UK but it isn't in demand here especially where I am on the island. I may have to move to the city here to find some form of work or unfortunately come back to the UK to work and try and leave again after a few months!

Something tells me Yasmina that you will always be OK and welcome wherever you are. From what I know of you, you have the intelligence, strength and resourcefulness to always land on your feet. And I can't but help admire your obvious courage and warrior spirit (whilst I can also equally admire Mac's resolve to never be pushed out of his homeland). Make sure to stay in touch and let us know how you're getting on xx.

Some idea I had if I were in your situation, I'd set up a copycat website like fantastic cleaners, gardners, removers, services etc in a city. You don't need to know how to set up a website, there are people who can make this for you at reasonable cost in Phillipines etc. Obviously I don't know nothing about Tanzania, is it like S. Africa? If so, I'd imagine there is a market for it. OR become an agent for future expats so that when they move to Tanzania, you can help them find property etc

Lol what does that mean?

The Natives might be eating you!

Not literally of course , but when a westerner arrives in a Third world country they are assumed to be rich by those living there (well , they are in comparison , you can afford an air ticket!) , and a minority  will seek to unburden you of this wealth as quick as they can ... I do speak from experience having lived in two African countries ...

The trick is to find the right people , those who don't want to take large bites out of you ...just small nibbles ....Everyone there ill be will be hungry and need feeding ....

If you are working things are slightly different , People can see you're not rich .

i thought you had a preplan, sort of if you are alone there it is a big task....props to you for doing it,or trying at least

Nope, I only had 2 weeks notice before I left, it was very spontaneous! Anyway, I'm sure things will work out the way they are meant to.

Hmm, I don't think that is the case, as there are also other countries who aren't following the script, as will always be the case. Not everyone is controlled.

Don't come back to this shit hole unless you have to though. This is a sinking ship. As long as you can feed yourself then stay put. You will never get out of here again without the jab. Then there is the threat of war here. Everywhere has problems and some places are much worse than others. Africa will have what it always has for it's biggest threat...starvation. It's the cabals chosen weapon there and always will be.

I wish you the very best of luck in whatever route you take x.

I agree, I think coming back to the UK will be risky however I would only come back if I know I can leave again. I have emailed the airlines about this and will base my decision on that. I can obtain a work letter so getting back out may be viable. I don't think they can introduce jabs to fly just yet, possibly by the end of the year.

Thank you!

Loool! Oh, makes sense now.

Yes, I did realise that, same as in Morocco tbh so I was already aware of this.

They can try but they won't be getting anything from me lol 😂

I’m looking at at it all now, UK is bad yeah. Belarus rejected money from the IMF which in return had to lockdown and destroy its economy, so finally a country rejected. I just do basic customer support, nothing special but I’d do any sort of job tbf, what opportunities are there in Tanzania?

Hmm, interesting. I didn't know that about Belarus.

Not many! Hence why I'm considering flying back to work!

Not sure as I haven't been to South Africa, but I think SA is a lot more developed than here. Thanks for the ideas, will defo consider doing that.

Wow I hope that flight isn’t too long! Which part of Tanzania did you move to and how did you go about it?

Wow, only just seen this thread, massive respect for what you've achieved here Yasmina. I've been expressing the need to get the hell out of dodge and thought of Tanzania. But I also, in my hysterical madness, also thought of the amazon 😅  and the Congo. Live with the monkeys if i have to, or basically anywhere with a jungle and the weather is warm. I don't do cold.

I'm genuinely inspired by what you've done though and if the shit does hit the fan, I know I can find the courage to take off like you did. Really awesome, I hope it works out for you. ❤

Cannabis in Tanzania is illegal but remains the most common drug and it is produced for different usage, such as domestic usage and exporting. It is locally known as bangi. Tanzania is one among multiple countries in Africa that produce cannabis in large quantities.[1]

cold can be savoured like a wine

it's invigorating and besides how can you enjoy things without contrast?

to enjoy the sweet you have to taste the bitter

Yeah, fuck that, UK is about right, not too hot, not too cold. 🤣

Although, preferably a more steady heat all year round would be better for easy living.

My God, I'm feeling so envious of you right now.  Where in Zanzibar, are you?  I have been several times.  Been p!$$ed as a fart in Tatu Pub, Stone Town and the same at Cholo's in Nungwi.  What I would give to be right there now.  I always take the boat frpm Dar Es Salaam.
