QuodHumana
I'm following a thread on twitter, that disputes the Chinese building the Wall. It's really fascinating. :Billy-Don :I-AM on Twitter: "1) The Great Wall of China. What would you say if I told you Genghis Khan was/is a Dark Actor in this game. So then...who really built the Great Wall of China? Is there ANYTHING we haven't been lied to about? Let's move on to some evidence! https://t.co/7njkAvLx8W" / Twitter Who actually built the Wall ? skitzorat
I read a theory that it was built to try and keep out the 'biblical' giants that came out of one of the holes in the Earth in Mongolia. Similar to the stories of Alexander the Great's 'gate of iron' - pity I cant find the giants link anymore :/
Seconal
Chinamen... Really only parts of it are big and strong and the rest was little more than a few stones build up with guard towers every few hundred metres. It has been built up and up over time so was never all built at once to the height some parts are today. Most of it isn't like the big section of wall you see on tv. Do you think they made the Barbarians pay for it? Edited January 8, 2021 by Seconal
nancywrong
The Romans.. the towers are accesable from both sides of the wall making it doubtful of being built for defence . It has been suggested that it is in fact the old silk Rd . Keeping traders safe from bandits
Macnamara
In the UK the romans built 'hadrian's wall' and sections of it were built in stone but as the project wore on, political deadlines looomed and resources became short sections of wall started to be built out of earth (i'm guessing it was rammed earth). The wall then performed a number of functions. Firstly it created a defencive structure against incursions from the wilder caledonian tribes in the north whilst secondly enabling the romans to monitor the movements of people and goods which could then be managed and taxed. Finally it set down a marker to distinguish territories and to act as a claim over an area of land. An earthen wall is not as good as a stone wall for defence but it can still prevent people driving oxen carts of goods through open country so that they must pass through certain checkpoints which then allows you to tax the goods and identify the people: CONTROL
