Well yes, there's that as well. After all, if they're pushing for us all to switch to electric vehicles, they need a way to recover the 'loss' of fuel duty (tax). Far from being cheaper to run, in the long term electric vehicles will have no cost benefit, especially when the cost of electricity starts to go up too - remember those EVs still need to be charged from mains electricity.

I’m convinced it’s do with the 5g rollout which is coming soon Every time I see old footage from the twentieth century with those old gas street lamps, I sigh. They looked so beautiful. Boris is living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks wind farms can power all our island's electricity and run all transport on electric "vehicles." Electric vehicles are not fit for purpose; they need to be charged after a few miles, meaning people who have to drive long distances for work would have to stop and sit for a few hours a day while they charge up. And how are people who live in flats going to charge them near their home? I expect they would have to find a point in the street and find queues of cars parked waiting to charge theirs. Absolutely useless for those who live in very rural areas too- I don't even need to go into why. Not that it affects me per se, as I can't drive and ride a bicycle but I feel sorry for drivers. k_j_evans
The only way electric vehicles can work is if you hire them and swap for a freshly charged one at each post inn/garage (like changing the horses). No useif you have a van full of goods or tools, of course, but we'll own nothing and be happy. Pfft!

The 'range' of electric vehicles is admittedly improving, meaning they can go further before needing recharging, certainly more than a 'few miles'. Here in the West Midlands, we have a number of electric buses now, which can do a whole day's service on a single charge, before being recharged overnight. But the ultimate aim is that only a 'select few' will be able to afford to own and operate their own 'private' electric vehicles, while the rest of us have to make do with using public transport within the cities in order to commute to/from work. One only has to look at recent development plans to see a distinct lack of parking provision.

Journeys in them going from say Manchester to the Midlands would require at least a couple of half hours stops whilst charging the battery. I've a friend who drives long distances ( self employed photographer) and he told me an electric car would be of no use to him. Bus drivers in my city hate the electric buses- they told me they take ages to start up in the morning and they break down a lot. Yes, the aim is to force all the plebs onto stinky public transport, crammed in like sardines. I avoid using public transport as much as possible. If I can cycle I usually do. If I had the money and wasn't afraid of driving I'd have got a car years ago. Must be great to never have to get on a stinky crowded bus.

There are various road closures or temporary traffic lights in place on stretches of roads where sections are barricaded off but with no obvious work being done. Some of the areas affected have had nothing done for at least 5 days, and it is baffling why this has happened simultaneously across the area I live in (West Yorkshire). Anybody else notice the same thing? Myself and my family have noticed exactly the same thing. Fake roadworks and a lot of road closures too where no cars are allowed through, bicycles only.
rideforever
I don't know if this counts, but in Brighton there has been a large increase in c***-behaviour all around. From people moving in, moving out, neighbours, people in the streets ... abuse and nastiness of all sorts. Many people I follow around the world experiencing the same. The shitness in people is magnified by the insanity going on.

The shitness in people is magnified by the insanity going on. I was down in Brighton a few months ago. Got targeted alot down there. I think the nastiness is pretty much global. I saw an interesting meme once stating, in a much better way, that folk everywhere had become more aggressive and put it down to the advent of wifi. I've noticed a change in folk generally since wifi landed in the mid 2000s. I would hazard that it was, in some ways, a precursor to the current situation. I've noted that wifi directly affects the chest region. Likely due to this being the most powerful electromagnetic centre in the human biofield that must now work much harder as it's the primary motor that's been weakened. This has a direct affect on folks ability to be compassionate. This and that together...not good. rideforever
@Traveller wifi does do something ... I also think that the violent shit they have on Netflix Amazon Prime is also programming people to be dark c***ts. That's what they watch, conspiracy, tattoos, violence, darkness victory. They are programming themselves. And the world is turning black. They love it. And not to mention the porn ... women also have porn and 50 shades of grey ... this is also damaging to the vitality of people, makes them vulnerable to the dark attacks. Don't think society was ever like this, Christian ethos prevented widescale indulgence in evil .. up to now. I expect that the result with be a satanic world and an evil society, where strange things happening are the norm. And dealing with Amazon returns and the c888tish behaviour of these vicious corporation also is damaging. And so it goes Edited December 1, 2020 by rideforever

Manchester had its own corporation buses, and so did Salford. We had several mainline stations then too. In the early 1960s, when I was about 9 or 10, there was a back lane near our house that was still lit with gas lamps. There was even a lamplighter that would do his rounds in the evenings. I used to be in the church choir and we would walk along that path for choir practice. It was great in the winter when the snow was coming down because you could slide most of the way down on the way home. I expect the lamps have long gone. As for London, watch this gem narrated by James Mason. It's enough to make you weep.

My mother remembers a gas lamp outside her house in the early 1950s when she was a small girl. She used to get given a jam sandwich for supper and she liked to eat it standing under the gas lamp. Sadly, the gas lamp is long gone as suspect the ones down that alley you knew are too. I will watch that vid properly sometime. I saw a couple of mins of it. Those tower blocks sure are fugly, although at the time they were an "improvement" to the Victorian slums that some people in the early 20th century were living in; in the sense that they had running hot water, gas fires, bathrooms and indoor toilets for each household ( unlike before).
