Apparently, according to social media, the list below has been released by a whistleblower. It outlines what is deemed essential and non-essential with pet care items (including toys presumably) being approved whilst many baby products and children's toys aren't.

Chris Noden went shopping in Newport, Gwent wearing just his boxer shorts and a face mask because 'clothes are non essential items' 🤣

The Tesco Manager in this video, who tried to prevent this man from entering the store for not being appropriately dressed, eventually has to admit that clothes are essential.

Edited to add: @alexaliterally just beat me to it (by a matter of seconds) with her pictures of this guy.

Can anyone enlighten me of an official reason given for this? I don't have a tv. I was talking with family and mentioned this non essential item lark

They thought it was a good idea that made sense.

Why? Because then small businesses selling pots pans bins dvds etc whatever- can feel better knowing it's not only them that are affected.

I asked, How does this help them? Surely it makes no difference if you're banned from opening?

"They can get the trade later when they're allowed to open back up."

I was stumped then. I mean, thoughts running around my mind.. "Shut and going bankrupt? Will they ever GET to open again? Will people not use the internet to buy these things before then and negate your reasoning?" But after being warned that 20 people have cv in my area I dropped it.

It's a strange feeling when you love someone but think there's no hope for them, and it angers and brings bitterness that they can't SEE, and accept anything they're told.

So yeah if anyone has heard of any reason please share.

I read a Daily Fail article yesterday saying it was to stop people spending too much time in the shop and congregating!

Is BABY MILK now a 'non-essential' item? More 'trolley police' chaos in Wales - but Mark Drakeford signals a u-turn by saying supermarkets can use 'discretion' over what they sell after days of furious backlash

Sales of all non-essential items have been banned under Wales's firebreak lockdown in a bid to discourage people from spending more time than necessary in shops and be fair to retailers who have to shut. However, the restrictions have caused outrage after alcohol is deemed 'essential' but school uniform, vacuum cleaners, hairdryers are not. And today, images from a Tesco store in Cardiff (left) showed a shelf stacked with baby formula milk by a sign saying 'non-essential' items cannot be sold. Mother-of-two Michelle Morgan-Davies, 31, (inset top) said: 'Formula milk is the definition of essential. Stirring up worry like this will only cause mums to panic buy in the shops that are selling it.' Another image showed sanitary products caged off from members of the public in a Tesco store today (right). Labour leader Mark Drakeford (inset bottom) and his team have risked compounding the chaos by saying that shops can now use their 'discretion'.

I saw that too. Baby milk and tampons/sanitary towels sealed off in plastic. Disgraceful. It's humiliating that a woman could not buy sanitary protection. So was she expected to just stuff her knickers with wads of toilet roll then?! I'm really glad I had the menopause. One less thing to have to deal with!

Baby milk and tampons/sanitary towels.    Well go in and bleed all over their f...ing floors and take your babies in screaming. Bloody bastards!

Douse some fake flood on the floor and tell em you now need some sanitary products, they should get the message 😂
