Chaplin met Mildred Harris in mid 1918 (June / July), and they married in October of 1918 . That would put her at age 17 which was legal for the time. Quotation: Lita Grey, his second wife was 16 and he was 35, meaning Chaplin could have been charged with statutory rape under California law. He therefore arranged a discreet marriage in Mexico on 25 November 1924. I do agree their is a massive age gap in their relationship, but age of consent varies depending on district of the time. Its also hard to prove without any concrete evidence (only wikipedia) and other sites. Anyhow, I did find a interview with Lita Gray, but she gives no evidence.. Ive not read Lita Grey's book yet, but that will be my next bit of research to see if it gives any futher clues.
