Let’s define terms. I take “Holodomor” to mean the theory of the followers of Stepan Bandera that the famine of ’33 in the Soviet Union was deliberately caused by Stalin to eliminate the Ukrainians, or, in those with a reputation to lose, was managed by Stalin to that end after it arose naturally.

It will never gain respect not only because of its disreputable proponents, but because there is no evidence of such a motivation anywhere in Stalin’s papers or anywhere else in the Kremlin, and all the things that the Banderists put forward as evidence are indisputably lies.

For instance, they say that the central government gave no food aid. The central government gave thousands of tons of food aid. We have the minutes of the meetings, the copies of decrees and the railway shipping manifests of the grain deliveries.

They use for “evidence” individual stories that they collected themselves (or wrote themselves) that are not only uncheckable but would mean nothing anyway because the individual peasant had no way of knowing what was going on overall, beyond his own village.

The main chronicler of the “Holodomor” was a retired British intelligence agent, a specialist in anti-Soviet propaganda all his life, who was paid by the Banderista lobby in the U.S. to write his book. They supplied his office, his library, his research material and his staff, and $80,000 up front.

 

The first half of the 20th C. is full of hideousness; from the Armenian Genocide, the Rape of Nanking to Mao's Great Leap Backward and the Cultural Devolution; but can you imagine another 'event' being spoken of like above, openly online in a common forum? No... a certain league would be all over it, shutting it down, tracking the commenter and trying to haul them before the courts.

 

I remember reading somewhere that the deep "Bolshevik" hatred of Russia stemmed from the resentment nursed from the Third Partition of Poland. Where they went from holding enormous privilege under the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth to the shtetls in The Pale of Settlement. Not to mention Russia being hugely Orthodox and the "Third Rome": that particular hatred is ancient though. 

 

I'm going to make a point of teaching my nieces and nephews about the real history of such things; to fully supplement the 'history' they maybe taught in schools in the future (if we have one)

Truly tragic what happened to this family. I especially like the kids as their mother tried her best to raise them normally herself, which was unheard of for royals back then. 

 

But one when it comes to the cousins, the similarity is striking.

I thought I would bump this thread, considering what is happening in Ukraine today.

 

There will be many Ukrainians alive today whose grandparents and or great grandparents starved to death under a

Soviet Communist collectivization policly which lead to millions of deaths in Russia and Ukraine. In Ukraine the number

of deaths recorded vary between 3-10 million people.

 

Understandably some Ukrainians will still feel bitterness and suspiscion about close ties with Russia. I believe the anti

semitism talked about in Ukraine is because the majority of the top Soviet brass starving the peasants to death were Jewish.

Lazar Kaganovich

 

Lazar Moiseyevich Kaganovich, was a Soviet politician and administrator, and one of the main associates of Joseph Stalin. He is known for helping Stalin come to power Born to Jewish parents in modern Ukraine, Kaganovich worked as a shoemaker and became a member of the Bolsheviks, Kaganovich played a central role during the Great Purge, personally signing over 180 lists that sent tens of thousands to their deaths. For his ruthlessness, he received the nickname "Iron Lazar". He also played a role in organizing, planning and supervising the collectivization policies that are said to have led to the catastrophic Soviet famine of 1932–33 (the Holodomor in Ukraine in particular)
