- In 2016 Elon Musk ordered a PR video to be filmed showing that "Tesla drives itself" - The entire route the car drove on in the video was mapped out in 3D beforehand - Tesla employees drove the route many times and took manual control of the car during these drives - In the video it was made to look like the driver just dialled in a route and the Tesla drove it autonomously without any prior mapping of the road - The video showed capabilities like automagic stopping at red lights and accellerating at green lights which the Tesla didn't actually have - Elon Musk tweeted “Tesla drives itself (no human input at all) thru urban streets to highway to streets, then finds a parking spot.” - While filming the portion where the car "parks itself automatically" something went wrong and a Tesla crashed into a nearby fence: https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/17/tech/tesla-self-driving-video-staged/index.html
