World War II - All Sides Controlled by the Knights of the Garter The Knights of the Garter co-ordinated and controlled all sides of World War II – a tactic used to good effect since the foundation of the Order in 1348. Following the March on Rome in October 1922, Victor Emmanuel III, King of Italy (KG #794) appointed Benito Mussolini as Prime Minister and later deposed him in 1943 during the Allied invasion of Italy of the Second World War.
