As a type 1 diabetic (I am 62) I have (and this is common) a very high Sex Hormone Binding Globulin level (double the top of the scale) meaning my free testosterone level is low even though my total testosterone is (or was) relatively high. For 10 years this has been successfully treated with a small dose of testosterone. However, most medics regard this with contempt when I tell them. But the problem is real - I train for strength (due to a lifetime of encountering unwanted violence) and when the condition was diagnosed I had man-boobs, no strength and no energy.
I was ill for 20 days in February - Covid like symptoms - since then my muscular strength has dropped 15% below normal and I have had other problems with high blood pressure, unusual depression etc. Surprise surprise - got the results of a free testosterone test today and my levels have dropped to rock bottom - that explains it all! A few points:
1. Did what I had in early February reduce my testosterone levels - I expect so - and was it by design? Recent studies show that most "Covid" affected men have very low free testosterone, even those who are asymptomatic.
2. Most UK medics show contempt for men's hormone issues. Why? Are they joining the cult of LGBTQ+ and a sexless society?
3. Nearly all of the medics just warn me about prostate cancer risks of taking testosterone - I laugh at that - the real risks of low free testosterone are heart disease, osteoporosis, depression and a miserable early death (very common in Type 1 diabetic men).
Yep - I have been staggered by the lack of concern by UK medics for an obvious problem I have - highly suspicious if you ask me.
