But is that any different from christians who believe their messiah will lift them up over others? Why would jews accept Jesus as their messiah when he didnt fulfil the messianic prophecies? he didnt cause the jews to return to Israel, he didnt build the third temple, etc. Also, his birth between a divine being and a woman is common to Greek and Roman myths involving demi gods, which would have reminded the jews back then of the teachings of their rulers and oppressors. There have been others who claimed to be the messiah too but the Roman empire didnt use them to create a religion.
