I think trump is quite mad, , I have no doubt he is serious about taking greenland of Denmark, it's not like he has to invade, there are a number of US bases there and no Danish troops.. what's Europe going to do ? Start a trade war, trump would love that as an excuse to with draw from nato. He will probably take a tip from vlad, organise a dodgy referendum and say this is ours now I'm not sure Putin will trifle with him either, Putin knows he is deranged, he would be ill advised to go into a who will push the nuclear button competition with him, I think russia will give back a lot of the territory its taken in return for a treaty Bombing gaza is a but pointless, bombing Iran as their paymasters isn't if I lived near one of their leaders I'd move, before they get a cruise missile through the letter box. As to Panama, it's not clear why they gave a canal they had paid for back in the first place, it will only take half a day to get it back

Minor News items - Not worth a thread of their own

The way things are going that missile may just as well be fired by trump, when he has invaded Canada, Greenland and Mexico he may bomb us on the way back from the Ukraine As an historic point, in the 1930s the USA had well advanced battle plans for invading Canada, sure they will still work -
Yes, it's not that unusual, it's more unusual for it to last , there is a huge culture gap that is harder to navigate than simple biological age

I've said this before and it wasnt popular, but however true Co2 is causing the planet to warm faster than it otherwise might, however just the volume of heat we produce irrespective of co2 released is also warming the planet. Whilst we can certainly use technology to reduce or eliminate co2 emission, there is nothing we can do to stop the gradual heating, other than stop producing heat. That would require most of our modern world to stop happening, as heat is a byproduct of just about every process we undertake.
-
Our planet could well have ended up like venus, its not clear why it didnt, slightly less volcanic activity and plate tectonics perhaps and the very early appearances of bacteria funneling co2 out of the atmosphere faster than volcanoes could put it back
-
It's got little to do with its atomic weight, and it isn't heavier than " air" air is the collective name for all the gases in the atmosphere of which co2 is one. It has everything to do the frequency of the electromagnetic radiation it absorbs , it absorbs at the exact same frequency as the heat which radiates back from the earth. Consequently that heat hangs around instead of exiting into space

When you say no one, I take it you mean girls in their mid 20s, because girls in their mid 30s will be ok with it. There are a fair few young women who find mature men sexually attractive, but that's mature rather than decrepit, my late 30s and early 40s were a carousel of mid 20s girls, I couldnt walk into a coffee shop with getting a date with Lithuanian barista . Non of them stuck around for long, but that wasnt really the point of the exercise

General History Thread

Been watching a series of documentaries about the north African campaign in ww2, which as you may well know for quite a long time the germans under rommel were doing very well. This is often put down to rommels undoubted qualities as a general and that's a small part if it. the largest part is the british generals were abysmal, they had superiority in nearly every respect, more men, more tanks more fuel better air cover and couldnt stop them selves setting up in indefensible positions and retreating when they had very nearly won and attacking when they should have retreated. Countless lives were lost to this ineptitude, so much so that at various times both the south Africans and the New Zealanders said fuck this, packed up, and went home rather than see their troops slaughtered Just getting to the bit were Monty turns up and puts a stop to the germans. Monty gets a lot of stick of the Americans as a general, but his main concern in battle was to kill as few of his own troops as possible , a marked change from the other British generals and later the American ones -
Well into the 1990s I was using a road atlas that didnt have the m25 on it, every journey was full of suspense as whole sections of roads and towns appeared that wasnt on the map, in the end the car was stolen and the map with it or I would still be using it

You need a consumer item to compare against in 1975 a chocolate bar would cost you 6p, now it will cost you at least a pound, so 85 p for a beano looks about right

cyanobacteria is one of the first organism to develop and the first to dominate the globe, it was every where all over the oceans and land and it effectively Terraformed the planet making it possible for all the life that came after it to exist. That is now now considered a problem shouldnt conceal the fact you own your very existence to it

I've run my idea on fitness past people on the internet and in real life and the basic responce is " bollux" which is fair enough on the internet , people exaggerate, but in real life I'm obviously very fit for my age doing what I do and people still tell me I'm talking bolux or just accuse me of being a genetic freak. People have been brainwashed by the fitness industry into accepting that fitness is expensive gear, takes a ton of time at their gym or needs their expensive expertise and if they havent got the where with all to pay for that, they conclude that its hopeless and do nothing, rather than something that may be suboptimal, but a fuck of a lot better than nothing. Quite a lot pay up and still do nothing The government dont help their fitness standards for the older sections of the community are no more than managed decline, try and walk round the garden for 45 mins sort of thing, thars good for someone in their 90s for someone in their 50s it's an abysmal lack of effort

For a while at least hitting the TVs worked, there is a whole subset of audio buffs that obsess over vacuum tubes, I think they are mad, transistor are one of the greatest step ups of the 20th century, I dont want to pay a kings ransom for blurry music, no one thinks it a good idea to put them in TVs and have blurry pictures

I've not invented any facts, I'm exploring how far your logic can be pushed before you admit its failed, as your refusing to answer the question I'm taking that as a tacit admission we have exceeded it by quite some way

You said there was no limit to how many bribes he could use other people's money for , as long as it protected reputation, Clearly you now think there maybe, if it's ok to pay one bribe its clearly ok to pay 100 otherwise your logic collapses

Ok so he hands over a few million of campaign funds to exloverd, childhood friends who may say he cheated at monopoly and taxi drivers who dropped him off at a brothel and you dont think that counts as fraud ? You are having a laugh
