I will copy-paste an "enlightenment" experience on LSD here that a very close friend of mine shared with me both by e-mail and in personal conversations. What's interesting is that it shares a lot of characteristics with the concept of reality as the ancient gnostics and David Icke perceive it, although he never read their books and scriptures (in fact, I myself just really started looking into David Icke's hypotheses a few days ago) . I translated the text from German btw.:
"Dear friend,
it's incredibly difficult to describe what happened yesterday. In the course of my trip, "I" suddenly ceased to exist. If I tried, I could remember what this construct is. I only became aware of this when I reached a state that is probably comparable to deepest meditation.
All the "constructs" of "reality" were just that. I was just pure consciousness. An infinitesimal observer point. I could observe how "reality" is constructed in consciousness. At this infinitesimal observer point, consciousness absorbs virtually all sensory information. There really isn't much more than this one point. Everything that happens from the "reflection" of the sensory impressions on the senses is only the construction of an imaginary "identity" that we refer to as "I". There is no past. No future either. There are actually only these infinitesimal observer (time) points, everything beyond that is a "construct", "illusion". At times I had to make sure I was still breathing. I didn't have any shortness of breath, it was just that my body no longer "belonged" in that way. Without a doubt, the body is the construct in Malkuth that transports our consciousness, but it and the relationship to it are also simply constructs.
When I got to that point, I realized I couldn't get the "full benefit" of it. I noticed how what I like to call "karmic attachments" keep trying to sabotage this state of pure consciousness. Which I don't want to imply that they are intentional, it's just the underlying mechanics. I think that is why there is a plea for deepening the practice in everyday life, in every religion, and especially in Buddhism. These "karmic attachments" are quasi incorporated reactions of consciousness, comparable to a conditioned dog. You are constantly striving to trigger a reaction in the form of a chain of feelings, thoughts and actions. This chain reaction in its entirety could probably be called the "ego".
In fact, it's not real. It is illusion and construct of our mind. In that sense, I have to say that this state would have been enlightenment if it weren't for the "karmic attachment" problem. While I was able to observe pure consciousness and the operation of 'karmic attachments' separately, it was as if this 'one-pointedness' could not translate into a steady state or higher vision because something was still 'clogged' . That's why meditation is really only one of the necessary measures. Presumably this state would be incomparable to other qualities if one had already weaned one's monkey brain from the eternal chain reaction of the ego, the illusion, Maya.
But very few actually reach this point. This involves a lot of hard work, even with 1cP-LSD this can probably only be achieved temporarily and not in full. In this sense there is no such thing as an "enlightenment pill", but one that reveals how the mechanics of it all work and makes it very clear that you are relatively free in the construction of reality and the "I". This shock is incredibly valuable for the consciousness that previously lacked the "right belief" in it. For many it is probably also just plain terrifying and they will struggle and agonize when it hits them because loss of “I” from their ego equates to death.
Getting the monkey brain under conscious control to shut down the endless chain of stimulus and response schemes is a mammoth task and requires more than meditation. Above all, possibly permanent mindfulness, in order to no longer fulfill the constant conditioning by "reality" and to gradually train oneself away from it.
As for "reality": I also had insight into their construction. You will simply have to believe me now or leave it until you find out for yourself. Much of what I have perceived is simply hardly or not at all communicable. Reality can best be compared to an endless, fractal "dark growth" that obscures the "pure light". The growth is "intelligent" and stupid at the same time. Perhaps most comparable to one or more artificial intelligences that were programmed at some point and developed in a very idiosyncratic way and probably not foreseeable by their creator. In fact, the comparison with "life in simulation" is perhaps very appropriate. I actually think the hypothesis that we live in a gigantic simulation is plausible. How to escape is the question.
For, as I have also noted, "reality" is actually more or less created and governed by "malicious" (were they not morons somewhere) entities. It's like a kind of prison that aims to prevent as many people as possible from escaping. Because of its "intelligence," the growth reacts extremely effectively when an "escape" is attempted or when people are even encouraged to do so. Every religion, every secular movement, is gradually being contaminated. In fact, I have to make a comparison to "Matrix": It's as if the "agents" of the proliferation (the proliferation, by the way, will be my word for it from now on) can inject themselves into people's consciousnesses. However, the “divine light” always stands in the way of this. It's trying to keep a gate out of prison open. It's almost as if the exit is right under our noses, but the proliferation prevents us from seeing it.
The proliferation binds the consciousness and structures of our monkey brain, draining us to the point where we are unable to see the light. From every human reaction of liberation or civilizational growth in the symbolic sense of the utopian erection of a kingdom of heaven on earth follows a counter-reaction of proliferation, which takes advantage of the really sometimes most simple mechanisms of our human, all-too-human brain and grotesquely distorts all attempts at escape, so to speak, then suggests to us that "the golden calf is God" so that we can sink into comfort and sit nicely in our cells.
The proliferation is effective and ruthless in what it does. But it's like a kind of "defective" intelligence. What you and I keep finding, that you can no longer distinguish between what is satire and what is news: That is when the proliferation shoots blindly and exaggerates. This is also the point at which many people then ask themselves whether "the world" has gone mad. It is not "the world" that has gone insane, it is this fractal, reality-defining juggernaut that can often only be called "moronic" in human terms. But people get used to the expectorations of the proliferation incredibly quickly.
You can't fight the proliferation openly, then the proliferation will turn against you. I haven't got any further into my thoughts on this either.
