Just under two weeks ago I had to have a cancerous growth removed from the side of my nose, I was on the table for quite a while, but only under a local anesthetic, and they cut it out and stretched my skin over the bridge of my nose. Then they stitched from the middle of my nostrils, across the edge of my nose and up the side of my nose as far as in between my eyebrows They took the dressings off last Thursday and when I looked in the mirror at the stitches, my swollen nose and the bruising around my eyes I nearly shit myself! But, in all fairness, the stitches were really neat considering the lady surgeon who did it was still new to the plastic surgery game, but was being supervised by Mr Drake a surgeon with twenty years experience! The nurse who took the dressing off fetched Mr Drake from the office to come and look at how well it was healing! He said well, what do you think'? I said I was happy enough and the surgeon who did it could start up a sideline carving pumpkins! He asked if I'd gotten used to not seeing that lump every time I looked in the mirror? I said 'well it had it's uses, it stopped my glasses from sliding down my nose for instance'! But seriously, I've not had to take many painkillers and the swelling is subsiding now, I have to say, the hospital staff were excellent and very careful in everything they did, and although I still don't trust the N.H.S., but, credit where credit is due that team were excellent! At the moment my three year old Granddaughter is a bit wary and keeps glancing at my nose, but, on the positive side at least I won't have to fork out on Halloween costumes this year !
They told me not to do anything strenuous for the first two weeks, but, that's nearly up now, and the call of a day's fishing is getting stronger, so midweek will see me on the bank somewhere or other. One of my clubs has amalgamated with another club and they have a lake with Pike and Carp up to and over 20lb + that I've fancied fishing for years!
Just thought I'd share that with you
