Nobby Noboddy 926 Posted August 17, 2020 Can anyone tell me who is behind StandUpx? I saw a picture of Piers Corbyn in their gallery. I'd like to know who the organisers are if possible because it's a bit slick and getting a lot of internet coverage. I know some people who are going and want to know they'll be safe. I wonder if it's being allowed to herald the second wave. Quote Link to comment

Didn't sit well with me. Quote Link to comment

I've met them a few times and I don't think there's anything dodgy going on there. Piers Corbyn didn't start Standup nor is he part of the group, he just always goes to the events regardless. You can't really discredit the group because Piers also likes to go to the same events. Quote Link to comment

I only ask because I haven't found anything online yet that identifies them. Quote Link to comment
zArk 2,755 Posted August 21, 2020 (edited) who are they speaking to and who is listening? i am not criticising the organisers but the format, the tried and tested form of 'protesting' in a group. i think its great for people to get-together and chat with like-minded peeps but in most organised protests (this covid situation especially) they are preaching to the converted and there are no zombies on the streets to hear do the politicians take notes? do the councillors ? how is this situation leveraged in the corridors of control ? will i be a number on a sheet handed around a committee meeting somewhere, sometime by someone i wil never meet? so i ask who are they speaking to and who is listening? is it just a massive 'pat-yourself-on-the-back' ritual ? i am totally serious and wonder, after wasting my time at numerous other protests down through the years, how is this going to be different? is Lemon like Boris and Doris ? is Piers taking notes and handing them through Labour party channels ? because, to be frank, unless theres going to be a solid 'viruses are not contagious, they are excretions of toxic cells' the opposition to social distancing/face masks/bubble lockdowns/track and trace/vaccine is extremely difficult but anyways ....... heres my selfish underpinning i will break my neck to get to a protest or movement rally through public transport to the city centre of manchester IF i know the score i aint a sheep blindly following the leader with the optimism that 'something' is going work Edited August 21, 2020 by zArk Quote Link to comment
BlueSky 371 Posted August 21, 2020 @zArk Doing something is surely better than doing nothing? End of the day I can say I tried. 1 Quote Link to comment

But what is it thats being done on the back of the action /protest? Is it a visible numbers thing? Is Labour lib dems or ngo scoring the protest and using the data? Quote Link to comment

I don't know about your last question. 1 Quote Link to comment

querdenker 41 Posted August 22, 2020 sure, no question that if someone really, really, really can't make it then so it be. the goal is to spread good information while keeping up good vibe's. If people having fun while protesting, the movement will thrive. And this is what was happening in Germany for the last few months. Countless protests have taken place all over Germany. Every week there are 100 or more events in big and small cities. Check out this calendar where you have 190 entries and some events are even missing https://demo.terminkalender.top/ 1 Quote Link to comment
