Midlands Unite Freedom Rally - Birmingham

image.jpeg.182eb7f90d4aa2dfe3c6908b9e8ae9be.jpeg

It is hoped that this could be the biggest anti-lockdown rally yet in the UK outside of London. Apparently the Ickes are to be involved.

It's a sad state of affairs really when I admit that the last time I went into Birmingham city centre was for the last rally in August.

There were a couple of hundred other attendees, and the police didn't seem much bothered with what was going on.

This one could be very different though. No doctors or Piers Corbyn in the announced lineup so far. Will the Ickes be targeted by the police this time?

I have to admit that while I'm prepared to listen to what Mark Steele has to say, I do have my doubts about him, I'm not entirely convinced that LED streetlamps are 'lethal weapons'.

Might well pop along myself but I'm in-between night shifts. I'll see in a bit if I can get some leave as this is walking distance for me.

I live out in the suburbs (Billesley) but I don't mind a short 25 min bus ride into the city centre. I have nothing else planned for that day, repotting my cacti will have to wait! ūüėÜ

I went to Trafalgar Square but this is right on my doorstep (I'm in Selly Oak). Just rang a manager on the off chance of getting Saturday night off and have been granted it.

Have you got an exemption or an exemption card Lisa? I assume that you won‚Äôt get asked, but apparently my dad was told off at bham new at station By a copper for having his mask pulled down on his chin Cos he was just finishing a phone call. So the station might be worse than the train? ¬†Prob a lot of police etc about if an event is on... we are getting there by train ūüö쬆

I did not have any problems on public transport for the London rallies, though if it gives you peace of mind there is no harm taking a mask or exemption card for the ticket barriers.

Thank you for your reply I don't want to take on exemption card or wear muzzle like a dog. I was just going to say I am exempt. Do you think I will get away with it? I what to be disobedient to the power that been telling us what to do. The exemption card  I feel is  another way of controlling us showing that we have disability from everybody else to see, so wrong. What do you think?

Kind Regards

Thank for your reply I don't want to take an exemption card  because I thought they are not a legal requirement. Do you know whether or not they are?

Absolutely ridiculous  how the police are telling people off. If somebody would have told me that it was going to happen I would have believed them how people are sucking this rubbish up. I did think it was going to be policed in New Street. I don't want to wear a mask and I thought exemption cards were not legal. But do you know whether or not they are?

I am also worried about not conforming to the rubbish but I want to feel free but don't want to be fined. This is my rebellious streak in me I don't like being told what to do especially when some think doesn't make sense to me. Please feel free to comment!

As things currently stand, the law is on the side of someone who says that they are exempt. You don't have to prove that you have an exemption nor explain why.

Dear Grump Grapes

Thank you for telling me about the law. I think it is the disability act. They will properly try to change that next and every body will go yes we don't mind change the law. Slap us in the face we will put up with this . My dad is not alive but he would be rolling  in grave right now. My mom is a live as she will be 80 next year she say's Covid is a load of nonsense.

Kind Regards

Hi Lisa, as you are travelling into the West Midlands, you can download and/or print off a TfWM (Transport For West Midlands) exemption card:

To support people with physical and mental health conditions, including those that are hidden, we have produced an assistance card which can be downloaded here. You can carry this card and if asked why you are not wearing a face covering you can show this to a staff member or fellow passenger.

You can also download the image here and save to your phone to show if you don't have a printer.

I don't have any conditions and I mostly travel around by bus, but this card has proven useful on many occasions. I just show it to bus drivers and they say nothing back. I was once challenged by a bus inspector as to why I wasn't wearing a face covering, and he couldn't back away quick enough when I showed this to him.

The government guidelines are that passengers 'must' wear a face covering on all forms of public transport, 'unless an exemption applies'. But one does not need to prove any exemption if challenged. The exemption cards are simply a 'get out of jail free' card.

It's only "the fear" that makes people wear face coverings when they don't need to.

THANK YOU GRUMP GRAPES

I went to the rally and I loved it. Only thing is people couldn't hear at the back of the rally. Bad speakers and micro phone wasn't very clear either you had to really listen to what was being said. Still thank you from every body help and support on the rally and in the e-mails.

Kind Regards
