i gave up smoking years back mate. I have the occassional roll up now and again, and it is occassional, sometimes go months without any.

When i gave up, i just gave up. One day I decided to stop and i stopped, and i guess that willpower is the thing. We moved house, and i said to myself that i wouldn't smoke in the new place, so there was quite a big lifestyle change going on too.

I recomend to friends that you declare one room in the house a no smoking room, then, after a few weeks, two rooms, and again three rooms and so on till you are left with having to go outside to smoke. Then of course you say that the back garden is a smoke free zone etc... and eventually you kinda programme yourself into not smoking....

It's a mental thing, that the mental block overcomes the physical need :D

Good luck with it :-)

Thanks for the replies, Merlincove, my plan is similar to what you did with the room elimination thing, except I only smoke outside so im not going outside for a week or until i need shopping, I've stocked up with food and my old ps1 games as a time consumer, last time it worked until I had to go out then I caved and brought some, I am a stronger person now and 100% convinced I will beat it this time. Elirien thanks for that link, I've bookmarked for when the time comes, hopefully as you say I won't need it.

Also, then, having something that you can do, when you go outside, that will replace the smoking. Maybe everytime you feel the need for a cigi you can send a text, or do something that will replace the urge and take your mind off the idea (without consciously thinking 'i'm gonna do this so i dont want a cig' - as that mindset will draw you back to the need....)

It's really not that hard to do... you're already hypnotized. So, hypnotizing yourself is a way of taking control. It's a method of re-wiring the subconscious.

For loads of excellent info. go to: Hypnosis Newsletter (http://www.angelakaelin.com/hypnosis-newsletter.html)

The above is a series of nice reports - some classic books on the subject and some newer material.

There's also information in the series about how to write and record your own hypnotic scripts.

Basically, you have to sit down and find out what's making you tick... what's making you do the thing you don't want to do on a conscious level (in this case smoking) and then re-write or re-wire your subconscious hard drive.

try alan carrs method

Introduction to Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Smoking - YouTube

Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking - YouTube

alot of people recommend it and i would to. He talks alot of sense. just check out all of the testimonials on youtube

I managed to download the audio version from torrents, in general i don't smoke many cigarettes, just cannabis. Although i can say, i don't know if its because of listening to the cd, but i really havn't felt like smoking cigarettes since listening...a couple of weeks back.

give it a try mate!
get rid of em, they are horrible things that we have been brainwashed to believe that we like. when really they taste like shit and do us no good.

Just stop cold turkey, in three days all the nicotine will have left your body & you don't need to smoke anymore after that.

When you realise after a few weeks the atrocious stench of cigarettes. it is shocking.

Are you retarded or just senseless?
The guy asks how to quit smoking and you bump with the question what the best cig is?

I stopped using Alan Carr's Easy way to stop smoking, along with nicotine chewing gum. The best advice I could give is that if you think it's going to be a battle, it will be. Embrace it as an incredible and positive change you are making to your health and bank balance. It worked for me. Good luck OP.

PS, I know the Avatar may seem Ironic but its pure pipes for me hehehe.

PPS - have just seen your avatar Lol!!

I also used acupuncture almost exactly a year ago and I quit cold turkey. I strongly believe the acupuncture did it, as I had tried to quit cold turkey before without success.

It really is mind over matter and a test of the evil chemical filth found in ciggies against your own mental strength !

I have to say I gave them up 11 years ago and gave them up very easily. It was is I'd thrown a switch in my mind from smoker to non smoker in one morning and that became my reality.

Use your mind. Use pure will and above all exercise and get your lungs working out in the fresh air.

Inhale nature and it's beauty instead of filthy smoke.

Good Luck:)

I quit two weeks ago. I used Swedish Snus for the first few days to give me nicotine and to keep my mouth occupied. I found a store that sells the General brand. It's like dipping tobacco but cleaner and less noticeable.

I have been nicotine-free for about a week and a half and I feel good.

I gave up three years ago this summer after many many attempts to quit.

A book called The Nicotine Trick by Neil Casey was the main factor - quite simply the best book I've ever read.

And check out www.truthwillout.co.uk

Chris Holmes is a Hypnotist who has been attempting to 'out' the lies about Nicotine and Nicotine Replacement Therapy for a couple of years. His book is the most eye opening thing i've ever read - the blog has some good stuff in it too.

My basic advice would be - ignore any crap about addiction. Cigarettes aren't heroin, despite what anybody will tell you. Get over the mild physical withdrawal after a few days, and the rest is 100% mental.

Could you give up Kiwi fruit for the rest of your life? Dandelion & Burdock? Broccoli?

Course you could. Cigarette are no different. Its simply a choice you make after the nicotine has been flushed from your system. Dont 'overthink' it all, and you'll be fine.

Take 1/2tsp of L-Tyrosine each morning, again late afternoon if you really need to.

Smoking stimulates the dopamine receptors in the brain, Tyrosine is the amino acid precursor to dopamine, adquate supplies of which ensures you dont experience the low associated with nicotine craving. From experience this really does work, although as with anything willpower and a genuine desire to quit is required, particularly for the 3 days you experience actual physical withdrawal from nicotine.

This also works for anyone experiencing "psychological" problems with cannabis cessation. Technically it should work for cocaine withdrawal too, I have no experience there, but would imagine much higher/more frequent doses would be required.

Tyrosine is cheap and is an endogenous chemical, so is non toxic. 100g is plenty and costs about £6 from myprotein.co.uk. its in the amino acids section.

Good Luck!!
