60 votes were needed to pass but it only got 56. source

(http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00340)A writ of habeas corpus is a judicial mandate to a prison official ordering
that an inmate be brought to the court so it can be determined whether or not
that person is imprisoned lawfully and whether or not he should be released from
custody.

In other words it's a law that provides recourse when a person is jailed so
he/she doesn't just sit in there and rot with no chance to have his case heard.
It's an extremely important part of our basic liberties.

The Senate is obviously completely corrupt (not that I'm surprised).

Both of my senators rejected it. Fucking hell. If I ever attend a Q&A with either, they will be getting a piece of my mind.
